And it looks like it was the JV capacity that was in excess. 🤷♂️ ⚡In July, #Honda will reduce its annual gasoline vehicle production capacity in China from 1.49 million to 1.2 million. Honda's car sales in China in 2023 was at 1.23 million units. ⚡In June, Dongfeng #Nissan announced the closure of its factory in Changzhou, Jiangsu with an annual production capacity of 120,000 vehicles. It's total production capacity of about 1.6 million vehicles. After the closure of the Changzhou factory, the production capacity is still around 1.5 million, and Nissan's sales in 2023 was less than 800,000 vehicles. ⚡#Volkswagen Group has 39 factories in China with an annual production capacity of approximately 5 million vehicles. #Nissan will close its factory in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, China. As the Japanese automaker faces intensifying price competition and the rising popularity of electric vehicles made by local brands. Like its Japanese peers, Nissan has been struggling with declining sales in the world's largest auto market. Limited options in all-electric cars have been a major setback👀 for Japanese companies as China is experiencing a rapid shift to EVs. The plant is capable of building about 130,000 units annually, accounting for approximately 10% of Nissan's production in China, the sources said. The factory, which came online in November 2020 (started in 2018), is scheduled to stop operations on Friday, and the production of Qashqai SUV made there will be transferred to a different Nissan plant in China, according to the sources. Nissan operates 8 factories in China through its partnership with state-owned Dongfeng Motor with a total production capacity of about 1.6 million units per year. The plant's closure follows Mitsubishi's decision to discontinue vehicle production in the country last year.
