Happy International Women's Day! ♀ On March 8 each year the world celebrates International Women’s Day by remembering the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women throughout history, acknowledging the gaps that need to be addressed, and identifying opportunities to accelerate gender parity. Although it is International Women’s Day, STech acknowledges this event belongs to everyone everywhere. In 2024 the theme is #InspireInclusion, urging us all to understand and value women's inclusion. Initiatives to encourage girls and women back into tech are growing. The Tech industry is growing exponentially as society becomes more reliant on technology, but that also means while there is lots of opportunity and lots more work to be done to address the gaps that still exist to achieve gender parity. We are very proud to announce that at STech women make up 37% of our business, which exceeds the current averages of women in tech roles in the UK (26%) and Malta (11%). We know there are always more ways we can make a positive difference and we continue to focus on opportunities to increase diversity across our business, including hiring more women in roles that are usually marketed at men. As the #internationalwomensday celebrations are in full flow, let's ensure it's more than just a single day of recognition. 💪 With the theme of #inspireinclusion, we must look beyond the days selfies and events. While celebrating women's achievements is important, we also need to take positive action to address the very real challenges women still face - especially in male-dominated fields like technology. The current stats are staggering: it could take 131 years to reach gender equality in tech based on our present pace. 😳 Women remain vastly underrepresented in tech leadership roles, with only 21% of senior tech leaders being women. And a third of women in tech are planning to leave their roles, often due to dissatisfaction with career development opportunities. We cannot inspire the future female tech leaders without improving retention and representation now. On this #iwd2024, educate yourself on the barriers facing women in your organisation and industry. A great starting point on this is the recently released Tech Talent Charter Diversity in Tech Annual Report which highlights: - Only 29% of UK tech employees are women/non-binary - Just 20% of UK software engineers are women/non-binary - 4 out of 5 women leave tech roles due to lack of career growth ⚠️ Also, follow Elevate - Women in Tech for information on our initiatives supporting women in tech. True inclusion means creating equitable workplaces where women thrive. This #InternationalWomensDay, commit to being an #InclusionInspirer every day. Advocate for fairness. 💪 Mentor ladies. 👩💼 Call out biases. 🗣️ Only by inspiring real, lasting inclusion can we unlock the future we need - one where gender equals opportunity in tech and beyond. Reflecting on the pioneering spirit in tech, it's impossible to overlook the incredible contributions of women who've paved the way. Despite facing formidable challenges, these trailblazers have not only excelled but also redefined what's possible. #WomenInTech like Ada Lovelace, Grace Hopper, and Katherine Johnson didn’t just break barriers; they built new roads for future generations. As we embrace innovation, let's remember that diversity is its lifeblood. It’s about bringing different perspectives to the table, each enriching the tapestry of technological advancement. We're reminded that every step towards gender equality in tech isn’t just a win for women but a leap forward for the industry as a whole. So, what can we do to continue this legacy?
