Article on : Rescue operations in Kerala’s Wayanad district. It resumed on Thursday, marking one of the largest efforts to save those stranded by the landslides that have hit the region. The construction of a Bailey bridge to reconnect the isolated and landslide-hit areas reflects the scale of the emergency response required in this hilly district. The landslides, triggered by heavy rains, struck Wayanad on Tuesday, claiming the lives of at least 256 people and leaving several hundred injured. The Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local emergency teams have launched a coordinated search and rescue operation to find people feared to be trapped under the rubble. This year has seen a series of landslides around the world — from Yunnan in China in January to Papua New Guinea in May that killed more than 2,000 to Sulawesi island in Indonesia and Wayanad in Kerala in July. The death toll from the series of landslides in Meppadi in Wayanad district had reached 276 on Thursday (August 1) morning, with at least 240 people still missing. Some 200 people are injured. Several landslides were reported in Mundakkai and Chooralmala villages under Meppadi Panchayat. Multiple bodies were recovered from the Chaliyar River in Malappuram’s Nilambur region, while many others are feared to have washed away, reported Indian Express. Rescue efforts were obstructed after the main bridge leading to Mundakkai village collapsed. The Indian Army and Navy teams, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are being deployed to assist in rescue operations. source : indianexpress.com Firstpost #savewayanad #landslides #kerela #rainfall

In the aftermath of a devastating conflict that shook Murzuq, the Government of National Unity has taken decisive action to support the city and its residents. They have established a new steering committee with a primary objective of restoring public trust in local government and ensuring the safe return of internally displaced people (IDPs). Open dialogues have been initiated to foster effective communication channels between the municipality, residents, and civil society organizations. Addressing allegations of financial mismanagement has been a crucial step in rebuilding trust and improving communication efforts. To foster greater transparency and accountability in budget management, Taqarib's C4C member, Seraj Senussi, proposed the idea of organizing a budget transparency session. This session aimed to provide guidance on transparency and detailed information on municipal budgets to the steering committee, residents, and civil society organizations. Siraj Al-Senussi said: "Civil society organizations admitted that they have gained valuable insights into the municipal budget and its spending mechanism for the first time in Murzuq!" The budget transparency session has facilitated broader engagement of civil society in the governance processes of Murzuq. It has contributed to enhanced transparency between residents and municipal entities, which is vital for rebuilding trust and encouraging the safe return of residents to their homes. #Localgovernance #Taqarib #Libya

Current Studies: Master of Business Administration (MBA) Degree ~ University of Suffolk ~ Ipswich, England 🇬🇧
𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝟏𝟎𝟗 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐀: 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐬 Residents have expressed concerns that if the PRASA's plans are realised by moving the illegal occupants currently residing on their central railway line to Macassar, it would severely impact those already residing in Ward 109. They have noted existing challenges, such as inadequate services from the South African Police Services (SAPS) due to resource shortages. Moreover, the ward has experienced frequent power supply disruptions stemming from Eskom's capacity constraints. Additionally, services from the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) have been withdrawn due to capacity issues, despite residents' efforts over the past two years to reinstate them. The influx of another 2000 households would exacerbate these challenges, rendering life in the ward untenable. Furthermore, it will also have a dire impact on many other services. Peter Helfrich
