Stories from the Field: Empowering Women from Household Chores to Entrepreneurship A 2018 NSSO study shows that Himachal Pradesh's female labor force participation is only 27.7%, below the national average of 32.8%. Women in hilly regions face significant barriers to economic and social involvement. SUVIDHA, in collaboration with the SBI Foundation, is tackling these challenges in the Sirmour and Solan districts. Our initiatives include training programs, group-based enterprise development, and access to finance and markets. By utilizing mobile training units, we ensure women in remote areas gain the skills and resources to start and grow businesses. Our efforts have transformed lives, turning housewives and laborers into entrepreneurs. With 500 women across 50 villages participating in the “Himalaya Hill Fresh Fruit Processing Group,” we see a powerful example of empowerment and transformation. Rural women have a key role to play in achieving economic, environmental and social changes required for sustainable development in village ecosystems. Empowering them enables women’s active participation in shaping a new future for themselves, their families and the rural communities that they belong to. Here’s the story of the women of the Adivasi belt of Dewas district in the heart of India, Madhya Pradesh who experienced low financial independence for a long time. In 2011, we partnered with Samaj Pragati Sahayog (SPS) to work in this region as part of our Sustainable Livelihood Programme. Our joint efforts since then have aimed to enhance the income of rural households by bolstering their knowledge, confidence, agency through the various interventions including: ✅Developing Watershed, Groundwater, and Irrigation Management ✅Promoting Sustainable Agriculture ✅Facilitating Self-help Groups and other collectives ✅Enhancing Livestock Management ✅Increasing know-how on Community Forest Rights ✅Empowering women through skill training and economic resilience building ✅Promoting digital and financial literacy Our uniquely designed patient funding model facilitates grassroots implementation by engaging all relevant stakeholders to devise effective solutions. The income enhancement story of communities under this project has created transformational impact on the lives and livelihoods of 1,00,000 + rural families over the years with winning stories shared by the women: ✅Nearly 38,000 women are part of 2,700 SHGs. Prior to the intervention, they were hardly able to save and now on an average they save INR 400 a month. The total savings is 50+ crore. They also have access to credit through the SHGs pool of funds. ✅95% of women have Bank Accounts ✅4,000 women are part of a Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO), Ram Rahim Pragati Producer Company Limited, benefiting from getting higher price for their produce sold ✅Promoting the concept of building kitchen gardens among women has helped improve nutrition intake for the families and have a surplus for sale in the market. A recent visit by the board and team members of the Axis Finance Limited team to the programme site of Axis Bank Foundation in Madhya Pradesh shed light on our decade-long and ongoing collaboration in the region with Samaj Pragati Sahayog Let’s continue building sustainable rural communities where every member of the family is heard, supported and celebrated. Today wishing all the women in our communities #HappyWomensDay #womensday2024 #sustainabledevelopment #investinwomen

The issue of financial constraints and resource scarcity poses a significant challenge for a substantial number of NGOs in India. With an extensive count of approximately 3.3 million such organizations, the struggle to secure necessary funding and resources is a prevalent concern. This problem emerges from a range of factors that collectively impede the operational efficiency and growth of these NGOs. In India, the pressing issue of child malnutrition is evident, with a significant 7.7% of children affected. This problem stems from multiple factors, including inadequate access to quality food, insufficient portions, and a lack of dietary diversity. Limited resources and socio-economic disparities further exacerbate the situation. As a result, children's physical and cognitive development is hindered, perpetuating a cycle of poor health and limited opportunities. Education forms the bedrock of a prosperous society, but in India, we're confronted with a sobering reality. Recent NSSO data reveals that a concerning 12.6% of students are prematurely ending their educational journeys due to the dearth of proper learning facilities. This issue is multifaceted. The lack of adequate infrastructure significantly impairs the quality of education. Without a conducive environment, the enthusiasm to learn wanes. Additionally, the scarcity of proficient teachers and necessary learning materials compounds the problem, leaving students without the support they need to flourish. Project Kshitij aims to create a collaborative platform, connecting struggling NGOs with potential donors, corporate partners, and volunteers. We are sowing the seeds of change to combat child malnutrition in India. Through community gardens, nutrition education, and partnerships with local farmers, we're nurturing a generation with access to quality food, abundant variety, and the promise of brighter tomorrows. By tailoring instruction to each age group's developmental needs and interests, educators can help students develop the skills and knowledge they need with the help of Project Kshitij in the 21st century. #Enactus #EmpowerChange #ImpactNow #EntrepreneurialAction #InnovateServeImpact #SocialGood #ChangeMakers #EmpowerCommunities #SustainableImpact #EnactusProjects #projectkshitij
