This Dr. Squatch ad is almost perfect. ✅ Great example of the “product aware” stage in the marketing funnel. The viewer knows about the product already, so the brand goes straight into their direct-to-response offer. ✅ Immediately shows the product in different environments + shows the purchase process. Both are strong visual cues that address customers potential concerns ✅ USPs showcased early into the video: discounts + free shipping + high customisability. ✅ Effective use of audio/sound to keep the reader hooked. ✅ Masterclass on using satire as pattern interruptions to re-hook the audience every 5 seconds. ✅ Dynamic, engaging, and entertaining throughout. A couple of bits we’d improve with this ad: ✖️ Get to the CTA quicker to improve the hold rate. ➕ Add in an obscure hook for higher engagement and to stop the scroll. ➖ Cut down the length of the ad drastically (from 41 seconds to 15 seconds). I rate this ad 7.5/10, strong creative but there’s always room for improvement 📈 How do you rate it?

While innovation is great, sometimes the tried and tested are tried and tested for a reason... Take video advertising as an example. Cinema and TV reach consumers when they have time to watch, and with TV, the content is interrupted to place full screen video advertising before, during, and after the content. It works because the consumer is not busy trying to do something else, and the advertising takes over 100% of the screen with few other distractions. Also, if you plan to sit for between 30-120 minutes to watch the content, the advertising is a relatively small percentage of the time. The same is true with mobile gaming. A consumer playing their favourite mobile game for 20 minutes will typically only see one video ad. That will be full screen, sight, sound, and motion, and played from start to finish at a time that the consumer chooses. Not only that, but they get a little dopamine hit when they receive a reward for watching that ad! Eye-tracking studies have proven that the amount of active attention paid to this type of advertising is off the charts! More than TV even, and closer to cinema than digital display.
