I love this interview with my cousin Harrison B. Wilson IV from Limitless Minds, and my other cousin Russell Wilson. The advice reminds me of something I wrote in an article I published in Law360 in 2023. https://lnkd.in/e3hD7Dy4 That piece focused on how associates can respond to the lack of feedback or constructive feedback. I asked the reader three questions. 1) What do you want? 2) What do you need? 3) What are you willing to do? In this short clip I learned two things. 1) Harrison B. Wilson IV was willing to do whatever it took to block Russell's shot. 2) Russell Wilson is willing to do whatever it takes to be great. I invite us to consider, what are we willing to do in connection to our families, our jobs, and ourselves, to be successful? There is both a reward and a cost to going where others won't. What steps must we take to give ourselves the best chance for success while maintaining our well-being? #wellbeing #feedback #law360
People who are successful are willing to do what others aren't, and go where others won't. And yes... I blocked 100's of Russell Wilson’s shots in the driveway. And I'd bet a significant amount of money, that I would still block 100's more... Limitless Minds 📲 #limitlessminds #mindset #champion #russellwilson #brothers #training #hardwork

I have been thinking about how powerfully & positively intergenerational friendships, collaborations, & mentorship opportunities can enhance our lives & careers. Tracy Chapman & Luke Combs shared such a beautiful & inspiring example of this last night at the Grammys. Listening to them sing Fast Car together moved me to tears the whole time: https://lnkd.in/ebWRuiq9. Consider mentoring others beyond your own generation & seeking mentorship from those older & younger than you. In my experience, there is wisdom & connection there worth our precious time & energy. #mentorship #careercoaching #careergrowth

Stumbled upon a sign at a local stable that gave me a good chuckle and an unexpected dose of wisdom. It listed horses for every type of rider: fast horses for fast riders, slow horses for slow riders, and—here’s the kicker—horses that have never been ridden for those who have never ridden. A humorous contradiction, yes, but it sparked a thought. In our professional lives, we often seek comfort zones, looking for tasks that match our pace. But what about when we’re faced with a ‘horse that’s never been ridden’? That’s where growth happens. It’s in the new challenges, the unfamiliar territories, where we discover strengths we never knew we had. So, next time you’re presented with an opportunity that feels a bit like a horse that’s never been ridden, remember the growth that comes from embracing the unknown. Who’s up for a ride into uncharted territory? Share a time when you took on a challenge that was completely new to you and how it turned out! #CareerGrowth #ChallengeAccepted #Leadership #ProfessionalDevelopment

Forget the scoreboard. Forget the cheers of the crowd. Winning, as Roger Staubach reminds us, isn't a spectator sport. It's a solo expedition, a relentless trek up your own personal Everest. This inward focus fosters a quiet confidence, a self-assuredness that doesn't rely on external validation. You become the judge, jury, and champion of your own journey. It's a pursuit with no finish line, but one where every step forward is a celebration of your own growth. So, the next time you set a goal, remember – the most rewarding victory is the one carved within yourself! #victory #validation #awareness #quoteoftheday #w3global

Founder and Personal Injury Lawyer at Velolaw, advocate for victims of negligence with focus upon cyclists, pedestrians and other users of active transportation injured by drivers and infrastructure designed for them.
I just saw yet another comment from an aging lawyer decrying the weakening of society (incidentally, the same way generations before them criticized their successors…) because of our propensity to give out “participation trophies”, without making younger people “pay their dues”. ~ This always makes me sad. More important than my feelings? For my money it couldn’t be more wrong. ~ Here’s the thing about winning. Some hard truths here for the winners in the group. ~ No one, save you and those closest to you care about whether you win or not. Sure, they may throw the annual black tie dinner to “honour” you (which is a thinly-veiled fundraiser for the organization throwing it), award you the top 40 under 40 (so your firm buys a table or advertising), or give you…oh, I don’t know…the Law Society honorary doctorate, but those say nothing about YOU. ~ And, those who really care about you care about how you feel you performed, not how you placed. ~ The attached video? This is what *winning* looks like. ~ Sure, trophies, rings and fawning plaudits are fun. I’m not going to claim I haven’t revelled in that sort of thing myself. But, if you’ve won those baubles at the expense of winning at life (which often looks like losing)? You’ve missed out entirely. ~ https://lnkd.in/gCZvEnzv ~ If your vision of winning is defined by others losing? Reflect upon why that might be, and what psychological need within you requires that to be true. ~ #acyclistforcyclists #bike #biking #cycling #cyclist #bikelaw #bikelawyer #bikeadvocacy #cyclinglaw #cyclinglawyer #cyclingadvocacy #bicyclinglaw #thebicyclinglawyer #personalinjurylaw #personalinjurylawyer #triallawyer #martinandhillyer #burlon #burlont #hamont #burlingtonlawyer #hamiltonlawyer #oakvillelawyer #miltonlawyer #niagaralawyer #bikecrash #bikeaccident #crashNOTaccident

Hit me like a ton of bricks! "You don't need any more ideas, you just need to take action on one!" This is coming through loud and clear. I am participating in an amazing learning program by Stu McLaren called The Membership Experience and today was immersion day. I joined late after returning from a client meeting and the closing remarks from Stu included this. These were not his words but those of his mentor. And it is so true, there are so many ideas I collect and hold on to, and yes some do see the light of day. However I do see how I can 'procrastinate' by being seduced by another idea or an addition to an existing idea. Stu is advising us to do is just choose one and go with it. Take the next right step and clarity will reveal what to do next. And the amazing thing is this, I know this, I advise others to do this, and I now need to heed my own advise. Anyone else out there have this challenge? Maybe we need to be accountability partners to keep each other on track and to actually do something with all these ideas. What ideas are you holding on to that are dying to come to life? Let's do this!!! #progressoverperfection #wiseup
