1️⃣ Lots of posts and articles this weekend regarding global #fintech funding being down 50% YoY (along with the usual fearmongering a/k/a FUD!). But the real story is about the organizations that "took the medicine" 2-3 quarters ago - as Brad Gerstner from Altimeter so presciently advised ("get fit and get focused"). They're now incredibly well positioned for a breakout second innings.
2️⃣ As the market has shifted so quickly (and violently) from growth to value, scrutinizing every dollar of OPEX is obviously critical. But ultimately, fintech's can’t cut their way to profitability.
3️⃣ Growing the top-line most efficiently is now coming into very sharp focus. That means maximizing every marketing dollar spent, minimizing CAC, and maximizing ROI. It doesn’t mean withdrawing, going dark, and becoming invisible. In fact, quite the opposite.
4️⃣ If I was a #fintech operator today, (disclosure: I'm a former fintecher turned banker turned event entrepreneur, and an active advisor to a number of fintech’s), I’d be prioritizing those marketing investments that generate significant, demonstrable, and proven ROI. All supported by hard metrics I can take back to the board (which has historically been very challenging to do).
5️⃣ For #fintech, #banking, #payments, and #lending operators, CMOs, and GTM leads, that means doubling down on Fintech Meetup. It’s not only “the best fintech show of the year”, it’s the only one that has consistently and significantly impacted hundreds of the bottom lines of some of the most exciting fintechs in the world. Tomorrow’s winners will be those doubling down on pursuing this kind of profitable growth / GTM.
