Clean water, good sanitation, and widely used vaccines have significantly reduced once common, widespread diseases. So why are we still vaccinating against rare diseases? Recent events point to what happens when we stop vaccinating. For example, the number of children getting the MMR vaccine across Europe and the US has declined in recent years. Not surprisingly, Europe and the US are now seeing measles outbreaks. Choosing to vaccinate is one way to prevent rare and dangerous diseases from returning. Have more questions about vaccines? Getting the flu vaccine isn't just about protecting yourself—it's about protecting those around you. Clinical trials for the flu vaccine are critical to developing more effective vaccines and making sure that we stay ahead of flu season. If you're between the ages of 50+ and haven't received a flu shot in the last 5 months, you may qualify to participate in a clinical study that could make a real difference. #FluSeason #VaccineTrial #ProtectYourHealth Join the study at: https://lnkd.in/gYcS5SD6

Stay Healthy – Get Your Flu and COVID-19 Vaccines at Whittier Street Health Center. The Centers for Disease Control recommends getting a flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same visit if you are eligible and the timing for each vaccine is right. Studies conducted throughout the COVID-19 pandemic supported the safety of getting a flu vaccine and at the same visit. For example, one CDC study showed that people who got a flu vaccine and COVID-19 monovalent vaccine at the same time were slightly more likely to have reactions including fatigue, headache, and muscle ache than people who only got a COVID-19 monovalent vaccine, but those reactions were mostly mild and went away quickly. #COVID #Health #Vaccine #Prevention Graphic by Devin Williams-Agyeman

On June 27, 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) director adopted the ACIP’s recommendations for use of 2024–2025 COVID-19 vaccines in people ages 6 months and older as approved or authorized by FDA. The 2024–2025 vaccines are expected to be available in fall 2024. CDC resources will be updated at that time to align with the new recommendations.
