Today we attended a C & R hearing to get a $150,000 settlement approved. We also settled a case today at Mediation for $145,000. Yesterday we settled a case at Mediation for $100,000. Next week we'll present a settlement for $245,000. Last week we got a $75,000 settlement approved. Settlements in PA Work Comp must be approved by a Judge at a hearing. The Judges don't opine as to whether the amount is adequate. The Judge's role is to make sure the injured worker understands the full legal significance of the deal- what they're getting and what rights they're giving up. The Compromise and Release hearings (our term for settlement) are usually 10-15 minutes or so whereby the injured worker is asked about 10 to 15 questions.
