“If you go to the store and you only need to buy one can of soda, you buy one can of soda instead of buying the six-pack. Because the one can of soda is what you value at that point. And if you need the six-pack, you buy the six-pack. Usage is really as simple as that.”

It was a pleasure to do this podcast with Peter Lukens. 💜 Fun fact: Nue's roots trace back to a meeting with Snowflake finance teams over 4 years ago. In the meeting, Kate McCullough and I learned a ton about Snowflake's creative pricing strategies as one of the fastest-growing companies in the valley.
For instance, they leveraged Pay As You Go to attract self-service PLG customers and used Credit Burndown for their contract-based customers, ensuring a balance between predictability and dynamic revenue expansion.
However, here's where it gets interesting: How do you track and measure the consumption and credits? How do you identify the tipping point to turn those PLG customers into contract-based customers for a predictable revenue stream? What about revenue recognition? Analytics? Providing clarity to the customers?
I quickly realized that traditional RevOps tools like CPQ and Billing are too rigid and heavy to adapt to these evolving scenarios.
So, it got me thinking. We needed a tool that could turbocharge RevOps teams, letting them get creative with pricing and business models on the fly, whenever needed. 😃
Fast forward a couple of years, and our team has been hustling to build a modern, flexible, real-time usage rating and billing system. It's not just about Credit Burndown, Overage Usage and Pay As You Go - it also seamlessly works with subscriptions, physical goods, and milestone-based services. Because we get it - modern businesses juggle a mix of pricing models for different customers and use cases. We want to give our customers all the choices and flexibility they need to innovate and grow. 🚀

Three tips for growing your RevOps team 👇
Stefan Mersch, Head of Revenue Operations & Strategy at Sastrify, shares how he builds a RevOps org in a high-growth SaaS company.
Listen to the full episode of RevOps Lab (EP no. 15) to get all the helpful bits and pieces that Stefan shares. 👀
Here are 3 takeaways:
1️⃣ Keep it lean
Maintain a healthy ratio between commercial ICs (SDRs, AEs, marketing managers, and CS). Stefan suggests a ratio of one RevOps person supporting 15 commercial-facing ICs.
2️⃣ Make room for strategic projects
Starting a RevOps org means you're in the trenches, doing lots of nitty-gritty work. Gradually build a more strategic team over time, e.g. by adding junior roles or working students to handle most of the day-to-day work. This allows senior RevOps people to handle more strategic projects.
3️⃣ Add specialists to your team
Over time, you can start including data-focused, tech-focused (e.g., CRM admins), or project/process-oriented members to your RevOps team.
There's definitely a lot more to unpack here - listen now wherever you get your podcasts.👂

Is SAAS back? Maybe...
My favorite podcast lately is the All-In pod. It's typically longer than what my attention span allows, but multitasking this audio with a nice long run hits the spot.
Last week's episode had a good discussion around the whirlwind of SAAS over the last few years. Since the peak of SAAS in Q4 2021, we saw it plummet and then go 6-7 quarters of negative growth.
In 2022 everyone was missing their numbers, then forecasting down and still missing, then we finally saw realistic forecasts in 2023 that companies were hitting. However, expected growth in the past was 2-3x YoY and now 60-80% is acceptable as long as it's coupled with responsible spend and/or profitability.
After years of cutting costs in this arena, companies are spending again to boost productivity. However, the "buy vs build" dilemma is becoming stronger than ever with the rise of AI and the ability to build software internally with less resources.
Finally, we're seeing QoQ growth again and everyone is starting to wonder if the problems have sorted themselves out and if SAAS is back.
Are these growth rates temporary adjustments or a permanent shift in how we measure success and growth in the tech sector?

In a recent Pulse by Intuji episode, Julian Wallis of Intuji discusses the complexities of integrating third-party data within SaaS systems with HubSpot's Kyle Jepson, highlighting the potential pitfalls and the critical nature of getting it right from the beginning.
"When you're talking about integrating with out-there ERPs, fleet management systems, financial systems...every business has a different tech stack. But if the structure of that data is flawed from the start, it's like building on rocky foundations."
It really emphasises the importance of careful planning and execution in setting up integrations, pointing out that mistakes made early on can lead to significant issues down the line.
Julian combines a sense of fascination with the challenge, alongside a cautionary note on the importance of paying attention to the foundational aspects of data integration to ensure long-term success.
