This is what a day can look for an in-house #communications leader: 10:00 a.m: 'Can you make this leaflet look pretty?' Name the time, could be 03:00 a.m: 'One of our people has lost a limb/died in the workplace. Can you brief the CEO and board asap, lead the media response, liaise with management on-site, alert the regulator and issue an internal communication.' And this is a problem. As I'm #opentowork right now, I am having various conversations about taking on a new leadership role. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, it's what I do! But... It's becoming clear that many organisations don't know what they're hiring for. They want a 'communications director', but the briefs are vague. They run the gamut from something about 'marketing' to building intranets. Sometimes I read JDs (where they actually exist) and have literally no idea what they're asking for. 🤷♂️ If you're looking for someone to build and protect the reputation of your organisation and focus communications to drive growth - call me. If you're seeking someone to make leaflets look pretty, sorry I can't help you with that.

We’re searching for a new face to join us for 12 months to turn the recommendations from our Communications and Media Review into reality. Role - Strategic Communications Advisor. The top three things we’re most excited about: Adopt Council’s first ever Reputation Strategy. Create and roll out a communications framework, toolkit and service catalogue, giving teams the tools to have a go at their own comms, marketing and engagement needs (really important job, need a legend to get it off the ground). Changing the way we work as a team - strategy first with a brand new demand management system, governance model and service desk for prioritising a fast-growing Comms workload. The best part of all of this is that we’re committed to taking a different approach to Comms in 2024 and beyond. In for 2024 is building Comms capacity and out is feeling like we always need to be in control. Collaboration is key and we’re keen to provide resources that everyone can tap into to succeed.
