Did you know that NLB provides below-deck solutions for our Aquaculture Net Cleaning units? In challenging aquaculture environments, mounting pumps below the deck shields them from continuous salt and moisture exposure, significantly extending their lifespan. Plus, below-deck units offer the advantage of reduced noise levels! Visit booth #22 at Cold Harvest, October 8-10 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, CA to learn more about this solution. If you can't make it, give us a call: (800)441-5059

Family x environment interactions exist in farmed salmon. We recently found pre-harvest maturation is one trait that is not consistent between the same families reared under different smolt environments (left panel below). We also see male maturation in land-based "large-smolts" really kicks off once fish go over 250g when kept on steady 13°C and continuous light from first feeding (the right panel in the graph below). You can reduce this by using fish that are homozygous for the late maturing vgll3 allele (LL in the figure, compared to homozygous early (EE) or heterozygous fish (EL)). The second Article has been posted in our open access journal section of International AquaFeed! With a very informative piece by Rob Strathman and 严骅彬, Famsun Group The physical quality of aquafeed pellets is paramount for the health and performance of aquatic species in aquaculture systems. Starch, a small, but necessary component of aquafeed, plays a crucial role in creating durable and water-stable pellets. This paper investigates the complex relationship between starch transformation during extrusion cooking and its influence on water stability. https://lnkd.in/eKZnqm8U

How does temperature impact salmon behavior? In a recent study, our own Jennie Korus estimates the optimal temperature of Nova Scotia salmon at 12.7°C. And if the temperature rises? They'll work to avoid these warmer waters. For aquaculture, insights like this are helping us create the ideal environment for healthy fish and shorter grow-out times.
