We enjoy going behind-the-scenes with our CEO, Greg Petersen! Recently, we asked Greg three questions that really shed light on just how deep his experience goes in the nonprofit sector, and his commitment to our organization’s mission; helping nonprofits build strategic capacity by balancing their mission with effective business strategy. His answer to our second question, “what role does collaboration play in strengthening a nonprofit’s business model?”, was so insightful! It genuinely sheds light on how we embody the spirit of partnership and collaboration in everything we do here at Mission + Strategy. You can read his answer to this question and our full Q&A session with Greg here → https://lnkd.in/ggUDGmpu What are some questions you have that we can share with him at our next Q&A session with Greg? #NonprofitLeadership #Collaboration #CEOQuestions

Effective board engagement is a two-way street. While your organization will benefit from dedicated volunteers, it's essential to invest in their development and well-being. Here are some strategies to consider implementing, which will demonstrate your appreciation and support for your volunteers dedication and commitment: 👉 Comprehensive Orientation and Training: Provide thorough orientation sessions to familiarize new board members with your organization's mission, structure, programs, and governance practices. Offer ongoing training opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge. 👉 Mentorship Programs: Pair new board members with seasoned veterans to provide guidance, support, and opportunities for professional growth. 👉 Attendance at Industry Conferences: Facilitate attendance at relevant industry conferences, workshops, and seminars, where board members can learn best practices, network with peers, and gain fresh perspectives. 👉 Recognition and Appreciation: Regularly acknowledge and celebrate volunteer contributions through various channels, such as newsletters, social media, awards ceremonies, and personal thank-you notes. When nonprofit organizations prioritize the growth and satisfaction of their board members, engagement naturally follows and this leads to a more cohesive and effective governing body. #nonprofit #Board #BoardofDirectors #leadership

Sound off in the comments below 👇🏾 I’d love to hear your experience! I’ve been able to serve as an Executive Director/CEO and a board member of a few nonprofits. The board-ED relationship is probably the most important relationship when it comes to moving a nonprofit forward. Yet, it’s usually the most challenging. Here’s what I know: 📍There is a critical need for the ED and the Board to share a unified vision and strategy to steer the organization effectively. 📍 Boundaries are ABSOLUTELY necessary to distinguish the distinct roles and responsibilities of the ED and the Board to avoid micromanagement or role confusion. 📍 Both the ED and the Board have to balance their passion for the mission with practical considerations for organizational management. If you’re a nonprofit leader or a board member for one - what have you learned? Comment below!
