Did you know that the Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness Act was first signed into legislation in 1996? 👇 🧠 At that time, it was the only federal legislation that directly demanded TBI prevention, research, and service delivery through grants to states. 🧠There have been several iterations of this act since its origin, and activists are fighting today to have it reauthorized. 🧠The TBI Act matters because 1 in every 60 Americans is living with a permanent brain injury-related disability who would benefit from the services enabled by the act. Learn more over at Brain Injury Association of America, and if you or a loved one you know needs legal guidance for a TBI, contact us today. #LitnerDeganian #BrainInjuryAwarenessDay #GeorgiaPersonalInjury #AtlantaPersonalInjury #TBIawareness

The Ontario Brain Injury Association (OBIA) has been doing incredible work in illuminating the complex relationship between intimate partner violence (IPV) and brain injury. Their collaborations and advocacy shed much-needed light on the often-overlooked consequences of physical trauma, not just on the body, but on cognitive and emotional functioning as well. As mental health professionals, we recognize the profound impact that psychological trauma—especially stemming from IPV—can have on an individual's emotional well-being and capacity to recover. These findings call us to expand our understanding of trauma, integrating the effects of both visible and invisible injuries, such as brain trauma, into our therapeutic approach. For those working with survivors of IPV, this work emphasizes the importance of a trauma-informed approach that acknowledges the potential for brain injury and its effects on cognitive functioning, mood regulation, and emotional processing. It also reinforces the need for a multidisciplinary approach to treatment, one that brings together medical, psychological, and social supports to provide comprehensive care. Understanding and treating psychological trauma requires not only empathy and skill but also an awareness of how intertwined physical and mental injuries can be. OBIA’s work and advocacy is a call to action for all of us in the field to deepen our knowledge, engage in cross-disciplinary collaborations, and offer interventions that are sensitive to the complex layers of trauma experienced by survivors. Kudos to the OBIA team for leading this critical dialogue and pushing us toward more holistic, trauma-informed care models! #TraumaInformedCare #BrainInjuryAwareness #MentalHealth #IPV #PsychologicalTrauma #HolisticHealth #OBIA #MultidisciplinaryCare
