Science Cafe Nijmegen, September 16: THE QUANTUM INTERNET UNVEILED Exploring the next frontier in communication and computation. ‘Quantum’. You’ve heard the word. From Marvel’s Ant-man to Google’s claims of supremacy, ‘quantum’ seems synonymous to ‘magic’, and it is transforming our technology day by day. Today, quantum computers have been developed with various types of qubits and the next quantum revolution lies in connecting these globally through an entanglement-based network – that is, ‘the quantum internet’. Just as the classical internet fundamentally altered our lived reality, the quantum internet could change the world in ways we’ve yet to conceive of. Game-changing applications we are working towards today include quantum communication, secured by the laws of the universe, and powerful networked quantum computing. The age of quantum has arrived and it’s here to stay, which again begs the question: What does ‘quantum’ mean? For our computers? For our internet? For us? This evening, alongside riveting scientific discussion, Deltatune and Jeroen Glas will immerse us in their mesmerizing mix of glassware sound objects and lo-fi video, driven by home-crafted electronic leads and beats. Come join the launch of the new Science Café season! #quantum #computers #innovation #quantomscience #applications #quantumrevolution #lifeport #quantuminternet #sciencecafe #nijmegen

Recently I enjoyed reading about a subject with which I have no work relevance – Quantum Security! ➡️ https://nokia.ly/3ZN4kIv I was fascinated and awed by the work of Nokia Bell Labs security research scientist Dimitris Schoinianakis, Ph.D., who is preparing for Q-Day - the day a Cryptographically Relevant Quantum Computer (CRQC) comes online, exposing nearly all classical data encryption to attack. This event, while distant in terms of human years (10 – 25 years), is actually a short span when measured against the pace of technological advancement. By sheer coincidence, I came across the book ‘Quantum Nation’ by L Venkata Subramaniam, a groundbreaking exploration of quantum computing and its potential to revolutionize industries. From the basics of quantum mechanics to real-world applications, this book offers a comprehensive guide to understanding this complex yet fascinating field. For anyone curious about the future of technology, especially parents looking to inspire their children to pursue STEM, this book is must-read. I assure you, it’s free of technical jargon and highly accessible. Reading this book has deepened my appreciation for the intricacies of quantum technology and its transformative power. Despite the late entry barriers in technologically intensive fields, India has excelled in Software, Telecommunication, Space technology against all odds. As we witness the rise of the semiconductor industry today, quantum computing is poised to be the next frontier. #QuantumComputing #TechInnovation #BookRecommendation L Venkata Subramaniam

Following Natasha Urakhchina's suggestion, I'm replicating my blog posts on Medium for easier sharing. I won't announce each repost here, but you can follow me on Medium for updates. When there's a new post, I'll share it on both my website and Medium. In this repost, I updated the blog post on topological quantum computing with quasicrystals. Quantum computing with quantum error correction codes (QECC) is now an engineering challenge, while topological quantum computing remains more theoretical and less widespread. Using quasicrystals in topological quantum computing is even more exotic but offers significant opportunities for both theoretical and experimental research. This field is in its early stages and requires pioneering work. We need to accumulate more research to attract funding for practical applications, which could be revolutionary. I’ve added new references on QECC in the updated post. https://lnkd.in/dkMjvRNv

Quantum Nation: India’s Leap Into The Future Recently, I was reading "Quantum Nation: India's Leap Into The Future" by L Venkata Subramaniam, and it’s nothing short of inspiring! This book beautifully captures the revolutionary developments in quantum technologies and how India is poised to become a key player in this domain. What sets this book apart is the way it bridges complex quantum concepts with real-world applications, making it an engaging read for both students and enthusiasts. Venkata Subramaniam doesn’t just dwell on science; he explores the socio-economic impact of these advancements and how they align with India's ambitions for technological leadership on the global stage. Subramaniam’s writing is insightful and forward-thinking, shedding light on the future of computing, cryptography, and AI through the lens of quantum innovation. The book also delves into India's policies, strategic investments, and the need for skill-building in quantum technologies. Overall, "Quantum Nation" is a must-read for anyone interested in the future of technology and India’s role in shaping it. Highly recommend it to those looking to understand the big picture of quantum science and its impact on our nation’s growth trajectory! #QuantumNation #IndiaInQuantum #BookReview #FutureTech #Innovation #QCI

Widespread belief that China is still just a clever copyist is breathtaking. Reminds me of the trashing breakthrough Japanese cars and cameras got in the 1970s. After 43 years in intellectual property in China I watched it go from slavish imitation to pioneering pure science. "Several international experiments have attempted to replicate the Hall effect at the quantum level by putting specific materials through stringent conditions, including strong magnetic fields and extremely low temperatures. The Chinese researchers developed a new quantum bit – the Plasmonium qubit – to create a clear and flexible artificial system that replicates the phenomenon at normal temperatures without magnetic fields, according to the paper. The researchers isolated single photons – elementary particles that carry no electrical charge and are also known as quantum light – by boxing them in with a Plasmonium array, making them easier to manipulate and observe. Chang Jin, vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), said the team’s achievement in quantum simulation is expected to have a significant impact on the development of quantum technology." “To build a quantum computer, you still need to encode information in a binary form – a zero and a one, just the way you do with a standard, classical computer. Your mobile phone, for example, has a chip that contains billions of tiny transistors in silicon – a transistor is like an electronic switch, either open or closed. By applying a voltage to the switch, you make your zero or one. #quantumcomputing #quantum #quantummechanics #science #smic #China #technology #quantumcomputer #energy #hydrogen #ai #huawei #machinelearning #mathematics #math #computerscience #quantumtechnology #datascience #mit #vision #computer #theoreticalphysics #stanfordphysics #innovation #digitalmarketing #creativity #Future #futurism #Entrepreneurship #Careers #Markets #Startups #Marketing #SocialMedia #Economics #venturecapital #motivation #sustainability #healthcare #education #science #philosophy #physics #design https://lnkd.in/eDP_TgSu
