What started off as an experiment or "what if?" is evolving
Will it be fully productized or a platform that enables a solution is still up in the air
Tech world was already going ga-ga over ChatGPT and other #LLMs
It made us wonder, could we use these for automating #competitor #intelligence?
We started using the free version, then the paid version and then eventually API access
These models are great. They can do incredible things.
But, when it came to gathering competitor information it ran into this
1. Works well, but only with old products and companies
- when the companies were long established it worked well
- if you tried to use it with startups or new products, then it didn't work well
2. You have to know what you are looking for
- from time to time, it gave completely wrong or random information
(and yes, we did a lot of prompt engineering...)
- the latest versions when given all the right prompts gave a polite
"I have no clue" instead of wrong info, but still didn't find what humans can
3. Seems partially blind to gathering from good sources
- key thing in market research and comp intel is to know where to look
- knowledge of what are good sources and what are not takes time
- it also seems to vary from industry to industry
- LLMs don't seem to know this already, giving write input/context helps
That is how we started realizing that just using LLMs alone may not cut it for gathering competitor intelligence.
That is how the idea of #competewiser was born.
Sure we are using these models and tools, but there is a lot more to it...
What do you use for gathering market and competitor intelligence?
Tried LLMs?
