To become a successful tech salesperson, you'll need this information. Just recently, two to three people have inbox me to asked what it takes to become a successful sales person, that’s why I need to put this here. You will need a a combination of education, skills, and personal qualities. Here's a list to get you started: 1. Education: While a specific degree may not always be required, a background in business, marketing, or a related field can be beneficial. Consider pursuing a bachelor's degree if possible. 2. Technical Knowledge: You should have a good understanding of the products or services you'll be selling. This includes knowing the features, benefits, and how they compare to competitors. 3. Sales Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential. You should be able to explain technical concepts in a clear and understandable way to non-technical customers. 4. Customer Focus: Being able to understand the needs and concerns of your customers is crucial. This allows you to tailor your sales pitch to address their specific requirements. 5. Problem-Solving Skills: Tech sales often involves helping customers find solutions to their problems. Being able to think creatively and find innovative solutions is a valuable skill. 6. Networking Skills: Building relationships with customers, colleagues, and industry contacts is important. This can help you generate leads and stay informed about industry trends. 7. It’s day 1 of your first tech sales job. Do this. Commit to doing these 2 things every day for the first month. The goal is to have done much of this before getting the job but in case you haven’t the new goal is to get in front of customers and start solving customer problems as quickly as possible. 1. Obsess over your ideal customer’s biggest problem(s). Watch recorded meetings of the top reps and how they approach the problem and how they conduct discovery. Specifically listen for consistent problems the customer brings up Write them down Go research the problems like your life depends on it Watch youtube videos about the problems Read articles about the problems Talk to peers and colleagues about the problems Understand the problem inside and out. Framework to use: -What is the problem? -Why is it a problem? -How frequently does the problem arise? -When does the problem come to be a problem, what causes it? -Who is it typically a problem for? -Why would they care to solve the problem? -If they didn’t solve it what would happen? -What do they typically do to try to solve the problem before you come along with your amazing solution? - Why haven’t they solved it yet? What are the obstacles to a solution? 2. Master the way you can communicate the solution to your ideal customer’s biggest problem(s). Watch more recorded meetings of top reps Join meetings live and listen for HOW to communicate solutions not just what the solutions are. Fact: How you say what you say is more important than what you say. Practice delivering a speech as to how the customer can solve the problem with your solution. But really practice it.
