Have you heard the tale of The Fertile Ewe? 📖 In South Africa, Stefan and Yolandi Erasmus, discovered a remarkable Merino ewe. She lambed an astounding ten lambs in just three years—a feat unheard of for Merino sheep 🐑 This particular ewe, despite missing one mating, emerged as one of their most fertile. In the past, she might have been mistakenly sold, and her valuable genetics lost 🌟 By using livestock management software, Stefan and Yolandi now consult their animals’ history, and make informed decisions based, safeguarding their best genetics 🛡️ Read more about Stefan and Yolandi? It's my pleasure to inform all of you about our recent research paper titled "Sodium Bicarbonate and Fermentation Concentrate Supplementation on the Physical Quality of Sheep Meat During Cold Storage," which has been published by the Journal of Animal Science and Technology (ANGON). This research explores the effect of adding certain substances to animal feed on the growth of livestock and also the quality of the livestock products produced. I really hope that my article can be useful for many people and can be developed further for the advancement of science and technology in the future. A low-tech plan, a little funding, and a lot of communication makes a big impact. Researchers at Duke worked with a group of Kenyan pastoralists to fortify their bomas to help protect the Maasai's livestock at night. The researchers and Maasai worked together on the project and saw great success. Read "Boma fortification its cost-effective at reducing predation of livestock in the high-predation zone in the Western Mara Region, Kenya." (Conservation Evidence (2017) 14. 32-38) Low-tech solutions are often sustainable and easily accepted by communities who are grappling with wildlife - human interactions. #maasaimara #conservation #humanwildlifeconflict #biodiversitymatters #kenya
