The Your Shores program at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is helping Miami high school students from diverse backgrounds to become the next generation of marine scientists! “It’s hard for a lot of students to see themselves in the marine science field and in science in general," explains Giselle Garcia, project director for the Upward Bound Math and Science program. “It’s not just because most scientists don't look like them or come from similar backgrounds, but because there are so many barriers.” The Your Shores program seeks to fix that. The program provides students with dive certifications, habitat restoration and research experience, and college preparation. Students also get opportunities to participate in internships related to the field. We're proud to support the Your Shores program in lowering the barrier to entry for future marine scientists in Miami. Head of Research Culture and Researcher Development at University of Glasgow and Co-Director of the Lab for Academic Culture
Ever wondered if doing an internship as a PGR is really worth the time out from your research that is needed. Let the experience speak for itself, in the words of our latest Intern Alumna, Gabriela. "In summary, here are the top 3 reasons why I think an internship is worth doing for a postgraduate researcher: 1. Working in a team offers a unique experience for many PhD students, who are working on a niche intellectual question and who may have little daily communication on the topic with others. 2. Exploring new university neighbourhoods is especially useful for those postgraduates who would like to embed themselves within the University ecology long-term, as an academic or professional colleague. 3. Standing out to employers is achieved by developing skillsets that your peers would not have had the chance to during their PhD."
A new read, sharing the reflections of Gabriela Gerganova on her time in the RC&RD Team, doing her PGR Internship. https://lnkd.in/ddJXSR3n "I somewhat serendipitously found, applied for, interviewed for, and accepted a year-long internship with the Research Culture and Researcher Development Team. This came at a rather turbulent time of finishing experimental work for my PhD, but has allowed me to develop a more cohesive and strategic view on how I’d like to develop my professional career. To convince you that it was not only a breath of fresh air for a stressed final year doctoral candidate, but also one of the best experiences I could have asked for, I thought I’d dissect how my time in the Research Culture and Researcher Development Team aligned with the Team values."

DC Internship 🏛️ Fall 2024 Student Ambassador, Sydney Hudson! 🎓 Intern of Defense Budgeting in the Allison Center for National Security at The Heritage Foundation 💼 International Business and Political Science Double Major at Gardner-Webb University 🌐 Young Leaders Program at The Heritage Foundation, intern of Defense Budgeting in the Allison Center for National Security I feel so fortunate for the opportunity to learn and contribute at the Heritage Foundation through the Young Leaders Program this semester. Most of my time is spent researching various defense issues and co-authoring pieces with my supervisor. One of the special parts of interning for Heritage is the opportunity to publish. It is amazing to be trusted with informing policymakers and the public about important issues. Another unique aspect of the Heritage internship is programming for interns from all departments, where the entire internship cohort comes together to learn about a policy issue, historical topic, or professional readiness skill. Heritage aims to build “an America where freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and civil society flourish.” Heritage has a truly amazing culture that flows from this mission. The experts there are so willing to pour into the interns and allow us to work on important projects. I have grown so much and am excited for what the rest of the semester holds. #DCInternship #ExploreDC #InternLife #DCAdventures #StudentLife #WashingtonDC #InterningInDC #CityExploration #DCMuseums #InternExperience #DiscoverDC #InternshipGoals #DCStudyAbroad #DCDiscovery #InternshipExperience #DCSights #InternLifeDC

Check out this new video about MDRC's Gueron Scholars Program, which is helping to develop the next generation of leaders in education and social policy research!
Who will carry forward the mission of transforming research into impact for people living in poverty? How can we ensure the next generation of public policy experts includes people with a broad range of lived experience that will help ask the right questions and craft effective solutions? That’s the purpose of MDRC’s Gueron Scholars Program (GSP), which offers paid summer internships to undergraduate and master’s students and fellowships to doctoral candidates from underrepresented groups who are exploring careers in the education and social policy sectors. To learn more about the program — including the stories of individual scholars and of GSP’s namesake, former MDRC president Judy Gueron — watch our latest 50th-anniversary video: https://lnkd.in/eRxr4Mcn #mdrc #mdrc50 #education #policy #impact #diversity #fellowships #internships

Intern at Cherry Hill Elementry | Student at Mountain View High School | Future Flight Attendant | Love nature and reading!
I recently read "Redefining the Role of the Teacher". It's a Multifaceted Profession. It highlights the evolution of teaching methods from traditional "show-and-tell" to providing unique learning experiences. The educational environment now extends beyond the classroom into homes, communities, and globally, with digital access to information. Students are active creators of knowledge, and schools are lifelong learning centers. This shift is driven by advances in knowledge, technology, and public demand for better education, with teachers rethinking their roles and the educational framework. Two things I learned are the changing role of teachers and the extended educational environment. I found it interesting that students are now seen as creators of knowledge. #alpinecteinternships, #mountainlandcte, #cteinternships and Alpine School District CTE Internships
