Rome: Climate change impacts on marine fisheries resources are changing the distribution and productivity of marine organisms around the globe. By the end of the century, the seven countries with the largest fish catches which between them accounted for 48 per cent of global marine captures in 2022 – i.e. #biomass #ClimateChangerisks #FAO #fish #marine #organisms

Written by anglers, for anglers, For Tomorrow’s Fish: Anglers Are The Key to Climate-Resilient Fisheries is more than a white paper. It is a call to arms for an angler-led revolution in which conservation-minded anglers are educated, motivated, and enabled to demand progress toward healthy and abundant marine fisheries in the face of the impacts of our changing climate. The EU Council negotiations on Baltic Sea fishing quotas were very difficult this year and all MS concerned had to make sacrifices in order to reach a consensus and balance fish stock recovery with fisheries Communities socio-economic needs. Despite an agreement being reached, the difficulty of the talks raises an important question—are the current tools enough to restore fish stocks and marine ecosystems, or is it time to rethink the approach? https://lnkd.in/gDq_VcXv

Seagrasses play a crucial role in coastal defense by attenuating flooding and coastal erosion, acting as natural barriers that protect shorelines. They contribute to the stability of the seabed, reducing wave energy and preventing erosion. This ecosystem service is vital for maintaining the integrity of coastal areas, safeguarding them against the impacts of climate change. #management #marketing #humanresourses #leadership #ceo #director

Seagrasses often face misconceptions and undervaluation, from reluctance to touch them to ignorant holiday resorts purposely clearing them for marketing aesthetics. Yet, their importance in ecosystems cannot be overstated. 🌊🌱 Here are some essential facts: 1. Seagrasses are vital habitats and nursery grounds for diverse marine life such as sea turtles, fish, critters etc. 2. They play a crucial role in stabilizing coastal sediments, mitigating erosion, and protecting shorelines. 3. Seagrasses act as effective carbon sinks, absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it in their tissues and surrounding sediment. 4. These underwater meadows improve water quality by filtering sediment and absorbing excess nutrients. 5. Seagrasses contribute to local economies through tourism, recreation, and fisheries, supporting livelihoods and biodiversity conservation efforts. Let's create awareness about this ocean Super Hero!💚 #ProtectOurSeagrass #GAAAP

"Seagrass ecosystems are not only beautiful but incredibly vital for our planet's health! 🌱 They provide habitat and food for marine life, protect coastlines from erosion, and even play a significant role in carbon sequestration. Let's raise awareness about the importance of preserving and restoring these precious underwater meadows. #Seagrass #MarineConservation #EnvironmentalProtection"
