Must-read US Government Accountability Office report on #securityclearance #reciprocity just released. As a surprise to no one, key findings include "ODNI and OPM have not fully addressed all reciprocity-related challenges that agencies and contractors face. For example, 28 of the 31 agencies GAO surveyed stated that information technology (IT) systems at times did not have complete information needed to make reciprocity determinations. If ODNI and OPM took actions to mitigate this and other challenges, agencies may be able to grant reciprocity more often and more quickly." It is clear the changes required under the 2004 Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act (IRTPA) haven't been enough. It's time to establish a Security Clearance Czar for the federal government, sitting in OMB and reporting directly to the President. https://lnkd.in/e2M6SbQq

Security personnel are often underpaid, underinsured, and underqualified due to the economic shortsightedness of companies. They are often commoditized, with contracts awarded to the lowest bidder, despite the qualitative deficiencies. This results in security firms operating on razor-thin margins, driven by volume rather than value. This shortsightedness mirrors a broader economic shortsightedness, where critical medical procedures are often entrusted to those commanding the lowest price. Large corporations often outsource security functions, undermining the compensation and security of long-serving employees. However, the burgeoning demand for private security, driven by societal dynamics, demographic shifts, and evolving economic conditions, presents a promising horizon for the profession. The private security sector is poised to ascend in responsibility and reputation, with the potential to supplant traditional police roles. This evolution reflects a broader recognition of the indispensable role of effective, well-trained security personnel in modern society. #security #securityawareness #securitytraining #valueshifting #industrygrowth #securityinvestment
