One thing you can pretty much guarantee at the moment - OpenAI is either courting military contracts or has been approached with an offer - those are the only two explanations for them removing the clause in their T&Cs against military use. Neither explanation is good - given how bad ChatGPT is with regards to producing misinformation, hallucinations etc. #humanrights #warfare #ai #automatedkilling #algorithmicmurder #assassinations #internationallaw #asimov #the1stlaw #the2ndlaw #zerothlaw

With artificial intelligence increasingly important in the investigation process for collating and analysing large volumes of data, new EU funding is now up for grabs for proposals that can help policing and security practitioners undertake fast and flexible analysis of large data sets to improve the fight against transnational crime and terrorism, as Policing Insight’s Andrew Staniforth reports. ❝The operational challenge for investigators remains the timely and accurate assessment and analysis of the information to yield actionable intelligence.❞ ❝Recognising this challenge, the European Commission has made €7million available for grant funding for innovative projects under its security call for this year’s Horizon Europe research programme.❞ ❝The recommendations suggest that there needs to be a high degree of transparency of public models, helping, among other things, to increase the trustworthiness of AI and reinforce the reproducibility of research results.❞ [SUBSCRIBER ARTICLE] https://lnkd.in/evaJye6U #lawenforcement #policing #police #technology #artificialintelligence #crime #terrorism #counterterrorism

Grants Acquisition & Institutional Partnerships - for Inclusive Humanitarian Aid and Development Cooperation
Drones, AI and other technologies used in armed conflict in recent times continue to influence the dynamics and ethics of war. From Gaza to Ukraine, we see reports of the constant targeting of civilian objects and wrongful killings. Lots of questions still remain unanswered on - the extent of the use of permissive targeting criteria against a detailed human review? the impact of automation biases which has resulted in the increased civilian casualties? policy regulation on the deployment of technologies of warfare (how far?) Addressing these very blurred phenomena would prioritize the protection of civilians in crises region. A very insightful discussion organized by Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford https://lnkd.in/e3YFv4XT
