This year we celebrated the end of Earth Month with our partner SOJO, a trailblazing tailoring and repairs platform. Last Saturday, they popped up in the window of our Carnaby St store with their sewing machine, to offer free alterations to our customers, helping to keep much loved NC styles in circulation for longer.
Through this event and the recent pledge we’ve signed with SOJO, we hope to increase awareness around repair as an accessible, easy and affordable option for consumers around the UK. Backed by the British Fashion Council, the initiative aims to create an industry-wide movement that has the power to create long lasting change.
Such a fantastic initiative! It's inspiring to see collaborations like this promoting sustainability and encouraging consumers to embrace repair as a viable option. Congratulations on the partnership with SOJO and the impact it's making towards a more sustainable fashion industry. Looking forward to seeing more initiatives like this in the future! 👏 #sustainability #partnerships
What does (in)perfect have to do with URGENT OPTIMISM?
Modtissimo
The theme of issue 60+3 of MODTISSIMO - (IN)PERFECT, leads us to the path of development and growth that the Portuguese textile and clothing sector has been undergoing over time, in the pursuit of its perfection, overcoming difficulties, constraints, and imperfections. When we think about the URGENT OPTIMISM? Collection, our intention was to provoke reflection and at the same time reflect our vision in search of a conscious and sustainable future.
In creating this new knitwear collection, we seek to convey not only a style, but also a commitment to positive change in the textile industry. We recognize that imperfection is part of the transformation process and continuous improvement. It is through the acceptance of imperfections and the commitment to overcome them that we can move towards a more sustainable and circular industry. Our operational strategy is driven by the desire to think innovatively, transform old practices, and improve the future of all involved in our circle of influence.

Amazing effort from Dr. Monika Hauck!
My maybe unconventional view on SHEIN, ***disclaimer - completely ignoring the production practices, hyper focused on there tech succes.
The Uncomfortable Truth:
SHEIN’s tech Model Is a Sustainability Masterclass We Can’t Afford to Ignore.
It’s time for a wake-up call!
In the crosshairs of criticism, SHEIN has done something extraordinary that many have missed: they’ve cracked the code on demand-driven fashion, setting a precedent for sustainability that’s hard to ignore.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth – while we’ve been busy pointing fingers, SHEIN has been pioneering a tech approach that might just be the blueprint for the future of sustainable fashion.
Let’s not waste our energy fighting a shadow. The essence of SHEIN’s success lies in its genius on-demand model, a beacon of efficiency in a sea of waste. Creating a sustainable collection that gathers dust on shelves turns our noblest efforts into the very waste we vow to fight against.
It’s high time we shift the conversation to what SHEIN does right and how we can not just learn from it but leapfrog it!!
When we talk about sustainability, the tech-driven, on-demand model presents a groundbreaking opportunity. Imagine merging this with the conscientious, sustainable practices that European brands are known for. That’s where the future lies.
In the past two years, my team and I have patch a digital way, tested with WARDENBURG and refined with our tech start-up SCIMM, this new digital bridge between product and demand, between design and end-consumer, developing a data model tailored for the fashion industry that champions the on-demand approach. Our goal? To transcend even the successful model that SHEIN has built its empire upon.
My call to action is straightforward: Stop fighting. Start learning, observing, and most importantly, adopting the successful strategies that SHEIN has leveraged. With SCIMM, we have the chance to not just replicate but significantly enhance SHEIN’s approach, marrying it with the sustainability ethos that defines European fashion.
The conversation starts now. Can we set aside our preconceptions and focus on the bigger picture? By integrating the best of both worlds, we have the potential to revolutionize sustainable fashion. It’s a moonshot worth taking.”

Vive la France 🇫🇷✌️ - I still cannot believe this is really happening.
So often I am being told that am a complete idealist to be building Repair Rebels GmbH and that there is no ways to fight #FastFashion anytime soon.
The Frech government keeps on surprising me day after day. Congratulations to the Mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi for showing a clear attitude in the name of #localbusiness and #fairmadefashion.
We don’t mention it often, because our “slow fashion” ethos is behind everything we do at J.Hilburn. Every day, we strive to offer unbeatable value and to change our industry—one known for excessive waste and uncontrolled consumption.
Making one garment at a time to each Client’s preferences and personalized fit means that each piece lasts well beyond a single season.
Working with partners that value sustainability as much as we do means we’re able to bring our clients the finest fabrics, with traceable cottons and wools from some of the best mills in the world.
Our Three Made for Me initiative is one more way we’re prioritizing sustainability in packaging and shipping. When you purchase any combination of three or more shirts, knits, or casual pants, we pass the savings back to you by taking $10 off each qualifying item in your order.*

A really good first step ... 🎈 🎉
Now let's get this across Europe 🇪🇺
Then the world 🌍
Essentially we need to make Fast Fashion unattractive to consumers so companies stop producing or start changing the way to produce.
Why is this only a first step. Even with 5 Euro or 10 Euro ( only by 2030 ) we are sill talking about very cheap fashion. Fashion which is cheaper to produce and has better margin than secondhand.
We Vinokilo try to bring an alternative to the masses with fast fashion. We try to match the prices in order to give consumers to make a change for a more responsible alternative.
Selling Secondhand is the future!
Selling secondhand is tough...
Lower margins, very labour intense processes and public stigma that believes secondhand should be cheaper than fast fashion.
We need further action from lawmakers.
-> 3% VAT on repair, rental and secondhand fashion.
Let's incentivise consumers to make the more impactful decision.
