This post on entrepreneurship applies to so much of what we do in life--not just business--because one could argue, that we are all about entrepreneurial efforts in every aspect of our lives. There is failure around every corner and, as Lee Heisman states, we could share the number of "misses" until the cows come home. And he focuses on the wins. Our perspective is important as well, in my humble opinion. Instead of wins and losses, could we re-frame these events as "wins", and "needs work"? Or, "wins and learnings"? In his book, With Winning In Mind, US Olympic Gold Medal Shooter (1976), Lanny Bassham writes, ""Miss your target completely? Like oops—I just acted like an idiot and really wish I could have that shot back kinda thing? Then we re-load by simply saying to ourselves, “Needs work.” We DO NOT (I repeat, we DO NOT!) ruminate on all the different ways we screwed up and how much we messed up all hopes for the future. Nope. A simple, “Needs work.” will do. Then we quickly go back to the moment we erred and think about what we could have done to execute the moment perfectly. We replay THAT moment in our heads. The benefit? Well, rather than groove the negative outcome into our consciousness over and over, we thwart that negative self-image building and use the opportunity to LEARN something. (Remember: We win or we learn.)"" Lanny continues, "I love to use this. First step: Catch myself. Quick, silent, warm neutral “Needs work.” Imagine what I could have done differently. Replay that scene. Done."" (From, The Fundamentals Guide, via Brian Johnson and the Heroic App. https://lnkd.in/eENxC6GG and https://heroic.us) The modified verbiage is not a new-agey way of thinking where failure is never discussed--rather, it's a mindset shift. Failures can lead us to think in terms of a scarcity mindset; an abundance mindset can help us see any "needs work" items, as things to improve and correct, and that we CAN overcome the challenges. I’ve always liked this quote from Thomas Edison about failure, “I have not failed, not once. I’ve discovered ten thousand ways that don’t work.”  How's your mindset, today? Do you live in scarcity, or abundance? Which wolf are you feeding, the courage wolf or the fear wolf? What we say to ourselves matters. Be intentional with your thoughts, and every day. Especially today.
