Let's get real about being a woman in tech. Sonia Couto didn't sugarcoat it - it used to be lonely. 😔 But here's the good news: Things are changing. 👏 The tech world is evolving: - Women support groups are popping up - The "women in tech" movement is gaining traction - More women are stepping up to mentor others Sonia's not just riding the wave - she's making waves: - She's on the board of HackerGals, teaching girls to code - She's mentoring through theforum.ca Here's the takeaway: If you're a woman in tech, you're not alone anymore. And if you've "made it," pay it forward. Be the mentor you wish you had. Remember, diversity isn't just a buzzword. It's how we build better products, better companies, and a better industry. Reframing the narrative. Over the years, I had the pleasure of working with many women in the tech sector. Almost every one of them hesitated called themselves a woman in tech. Women whose contribution to the organization they worked for (and sometimes even founded!) were critical. All because their role – operations, marketing, etc. – didn’t involve traditional IT like coding, programming. Let’s reframe this. You are a woman who contribute to the success of a company, you are a woman in tech. Period. #tech #womenintech

Data Science already determines so much in our individual lives and societies, we must shape it in a way where it truly benefits us all. We need more data scientists and we need them to be representative across all dimensions (not just genders). How? Well, let's start by not acting like programming is natural talent you are either born with or cannot obtain. Python is just a language with vocabulary and grammar and yes, you need some problem-solving skills - but in what world do you not? Let's stop saying "I just can't do math" as if it is something you can't learn to a pretty useful level, if you just put in the effort. Let's not treat data science as this alien thing you need to be called for by the universe but understand it is just one way of approaching problems. Of course, not everyone will be interested in or maybe even able to do data science but in my experience as a data scientist, university teacher and mentor - there are definitely too many people who have never considered it, simply because of psychological barriers that should not be there.

Breaking barriers as a woman in tech wasn't easy. Overcoming challenges, seeking funding, and finding role models, here's my journey.. As a female founder in the tech industry, I've encountered unique challenges that have shaped my perspective. Despite the rewarding nature of being an entrepreneur in tech, I've faced the conundrum of finding mentors and role models, the struggle to secure funding, and the pressure to be a perfect representation of women in the male-dominated tech industry These experiences have fueled my determination to redefine the narrative and pave the way for other women in tech. From my personal journey, I've learned that sharing experiences and knowledge is vital for supporting and empowering other women in the tech industry By aligning my profile with my purpose and being my truest self, I aim to inspire and empower other women to pursue their ambitions in tech It's essential to create a supportive environment where female entrepreneurs are not only accepted but also provided with the necessary resources and support to thrive In conclusion, my experience as a female founder in the tech industry has driven me to advocate for greater support, inclusivity, and empowerment for women in tech. I am committed to reshaping the narrative and creating a more diverse and inclusive tech landscape for the next generation of female entrepreneurs. Let's start a conversation! 💬 Share your thoughts or experiences as a woman in tech in the comments. If you know someone who could benefit from this post, feel free to share it. We are still riding the high from our Women in Tech event last Wednesday night. So many heartfelt thank yous and excitement that many had found common ground with others at the event and were inspired to further the conversation about empowering Women in Tech. One topic that was touched on was if any of our panelists had a mentor or role model that they looked up to inspire them in their careers. Not many had, which makes us think, who are the super girls of the tech world? Who inspires our next generation? Then this article came out and I thought, here is someone who should be a role model; this could be one of our super girls (because there are many yet to be discovered!). Aspiring Techies take note, here is someone whose positivity in this world is inspiring. Enjoy this read about Marissa Mayer and then let us know in the comments who your role models are for your career! #Womenintech #empowerher #rolemodels #TechRoleModels #TechCommunity #TechMentorship #NextGenLeaders

I had the incredible opportunity to be interviewed about #WomeninTech at #WebSummitQatar, and one question that truly resonated with me was, "What advice would you give to young women entering the industry?" My response? Explore every avenue available to you, but also, dare to craft the industry you want to be a part of. We often wait for the perfect moment or the right opportunity to come our way, but the truth is, groundbreaking changes are made by those who don't wait. To all the aspiring women in tech out there, my message is clear: Be boldly disruptive. The path may not always be laid out in front of you, and that's okay. It's more than okay, actually—it's your chance to build new roads and redefine what the tech industry looks like. Don't shy away from making your mark. It's your ideas, your innovation, and your vision that will shape the future of tech. Let's not wait to be part of the change; let's be the force that drives it. #WomenInTech #BeTheChange #Innovation #TechIndustry
