The Disagree Better initiative is about "relearning how to disagree the right way, how to have debate, how to stay true to your principles, your core values, without demeaning and tearing apart the other side, and in so doing, actually find where there is common ground, where we can meet each other to solve problems." The big divide today is not actually left or right (for what does that really mean in a 21st century society?) but rather the return of class and class conflict; with the 21st century spin of liberal urban "elites" [itself a problematic term] versus 'the masses'- or the 'populist' re-imagining of the 'the masses'. My view is that we need a new socio-political taxonomy ( including a NZ specific one), but in the meantime Michael Lind provides a lively, incisive take on the American context:

The critically acclaimed play, Wicked, offers a reminder that broadly presented narratives are generally too readily accepted, despite the fact that they’re often created to sell a specific agenda on behalf of the person or interest group telling the story. The longer that narrative is unchallenged, the more difficult it is to reframe, even when it’s vital to do so. To many Americans, Washington, DC — our country’s capital city — has increasingly felt out of reach, and even worlds away from their own life experiences. Why is that? And how often do similar social dynamics from the fictional story of Oz inform political judgments in today’s Washington? Not surprisingly, quite often. If you want to see how the Marxist ideas of DEI are being pushed on us by the leftist media, take a look at the Pulitzer Prizes just announced by Poison Ivy League Columbia University. The Pulitzer Prize is a liberal Holy Grail coveted by leftist media types as much as the fictional Gollum desired his precious Ring. Among the finalists is one from Alabama, Brian Lyman of the digital Alabama Reflector, for commentary. Lyman once worked for the Mobile Press Register among others. In its “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice” section, Alabama Reflector posts: “The news industry has long been led by a privileged subset of the population, and the bias and systemic racism that reporters chronicle in their stories often is present in journalism itself.” The so-called news site pledges that, “We incorporate values of diversity and equity in selecting stories to pursue, choosing sources to consult, and crafting language to publish. We are guided by such values in hiring for our newsrooms, fostering organization culture, and retaining staff members.” The purpose of DEI is to force universities, businesses, government, and other institutions to adopt radical leftist ideologies. The words “diversity,” “inclusion,” and “equity” are used for their emotive value, but they are redefined in ways that make them a justification for a less tolerant, less diverse, less critical, and less equal society. This Marxist ideology is incompatible with freedom, and it is extremely dangerous. No journalist should be promoting it.

Whether America is democracy or constitutional republic, our government doesn’t have legal authority to own private citizens and their properties: slavery is history from legal point of view : Muslims discovered America before Columbus, claims Turkey’s Erdogan - The Washington Post; Muslims lived in America before Protestantism even existed | Aeon Essays; Muslims in America: A forgotten history | History | Al Jazeera; The African, and Muslim, Discovery of America – Before Columbus – History of Islam; African Muslims in America Before Columbus | Islam and the Black American - YouTube; Islam in America BEFORE Columbus - YouTube; American Muslims, before and after September 11, 2001 on JSTOR; Muslim Americans Take Post-9/11 Surveillance to SCOTUS | Time; Teachers Guide - Muslims | Teacher Center | FRONTLINE | PBS; Muslims arrived in America 400 years ago as part of the slave trade and today are vastly diverse (theconversation.com); I understand the complexity of Muslims and African descents history in America, but I am free citizen of the US and there cannot be debate about me being slave or free. America has separation of church and state. America has rule of law and its free market economy; I love all these aspects of America and they are compatible with my thought processes. I am for economic growth of America, but it should never be via robbery and slavery. Christians hustled with me from Ethiopia, Kenya, to the US; I have been asked to convert all these times; the benefit and the stories and research products people looked for can be used for all faiths and races inclusively voluntarily, but I can never be owned, and my properties also can never be robbed. I never regret if I die defending America from genuine homeland threat, but slavery, colonizing individual citizen, robbery, coerced human experimentation, and etc will never be accepted by me. To this date I am being taken hostage from executing many projects that benefits me and my family and America and the rest of the world. The biased history of African descendants and neocolonialism can never apply to me in 21st century American : as a citizen of free country and market economy I can never be invaded, occupied , and colonized; Supreme Court of the United States; Gravitas Plus: The race for Africa - YouTube; Darwin, Africa, and Genocide: The Horror of Scientific Racism - YouTube; Human Zoos: America's Forgotten History of Scientific Racism - YouTube. No one should hustle with me to use my time, money, precious research products that worth trillions of dollars, and I all together. The govts, faith groups, research teams, and others wanted to twist my arm and rob me more than 30 years of research products.

Here's my latest article published by e-international relations. In this piece, I argue that conversations about reparations for descendants of formerly enslaved peoples are needed alongside a holistic approach to the increasing racial wealth gap. These conversations, and other factors, should be motivated by what is fair and right. Nothing else. https://lnkd.in/eNKNdkyV

Well and not as in water is second Society / Commentary by Tyler O'Neil, managing editor of The Daily Signal and the author of "Making Hate Pay: The Corruption of the Southern Poverty Law Center." Just as the first article posted earlier, this is another tool towards Marxism. Old Webster is probably reeling and spinning on definitions. AP....Associated Press, perhaps the real question is just who are they associated with? It seems that objectivity has been lost in space perhaps much further out than Voyager 1 launched in 1977....by many, many light years and gaining speed. News flash AP, many of us, the majority of us are NOT confused where as the minority are. ...We are simply not going to accept it. Yep 97% of scientist agree that the climate monster they project is NOT. Yes first is was freeze, then burn, now it is a catch all climate and little Greta cries away.....much like the town cryer of past....except the message is very confused or perhaps simply being used much like that fellow Joe....Looking at the poster with the young folks pretty well says it all, as if being orchestrated by the director on the right and the sponsors (IMF) on the sign to the left..... so on to it. ..."Most news outlets rely on The Associated Press style guide—officially known as the AP Stylebook—as the arbiter for grammar, spelling, and terminology in news coverage. While AP puts forth its style guide as an impartial rubric for fair coverage, its rules often exclude conservative views from the outset. Take AP’s latest round of updates, released Friday. The updates include guidance on how to avoid “stigmatizing” obese people, admonitions to avoid calling people “homeless” as it might be “dehumanizing,” and warnings to avoid the term “female” since “some people object to its use as a descriptor for women because it can be seen as emphasizing biology and reproductive capacity over gender identity.” ...... READ ON, PRAY ON...STAND UNITED for FREEDOM, RIGHTS....IN GOD WE TRUST!!...PROUDLY, STRONGLY!!...all over the WORLD>>>!!

"What I learned in my political life, is that you have to be sure of rock solid values, like the commitment to equality." In October 2023, Broadbent Institute Director of Policy Clement Nocos spoke with Ed to reflect on the lessons from his new book Seeking Social Democracy. "There's some flexibility in social democratic thinking," he reminded us. "There are unexpected occurrences that have to be dealt with, and there's no magic formula."
