The number of tourists visiting Japan is now even higher than it was pre-COVID, thanks in part to favorable currency rates. It's truly heartening to witness this revival. My boss often reminds us of the importance of aligning our individual goals with our work. Do you set New Year Resolutions? I personally prefer "New Year Intentions." I choose things that not only better myself but also have the ability to better those around me too... They are: Move on quickly: When I experience a setback, I'll allow myself to be angry/upset/disappointed, whatever the resulting feeling, for a certain finite time... since we need to allow emotions and not immediatley dismiss them. Then, I will intentionally shift my mindset in order to productively move forward. Wallowing does no one good and I don't want to be a wallower. I'm decent at this already but certainly have room to improve. Talk about people like they are there: I'm not a big gossiper in the first place but I want to be super intentional about ensuring that if I say something about someone that I am only saying things that I would say if they were standing right there. The other day I was hiking with a friend and she mentioned something about a mutual friend. Before she dove too far into her story, I kindly interrupted and shared with her this intention. She said, "Oh I love that! Thank you for saying that. I want to do that too." Focus on the positive: By nature, I'm a positive person, but I'd like to amplify this. And I'm not talking about being all "Pollyanna" every minute of the day. What I AM talking about is choosing to be positive when there is an option to look on the negative or positive side of a situation. Like seeing my wrinkles as "experience lines" and embracing them. You know, wag more, bark less kind of thing. Watching my thoughts: Basically, being more aware of what I say and think - and well, thinking about what I think about more - because thoughts can quickly become toxic if we let them grow legs and a mind of their own.
