This panorama image features Gemini North, one half of the International Gemini Observatory, supported in part by the NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and operated by NSF NOIRLab and its neighboring telescopes on what appears to be on a flat landscape with low hills. But actually, these small peaks sit atop a much larger mountain. ⛰️ Maunakea is an inactive shield volcano and one of the tallest mountains on Earth. 🗻 It rises 4205 meters (13,786 feet) above sea level, but extends about 6000 meters (19,700 feet) below sea level to meet the deep ocean floor. ✨ Its total height is nearly 10,211 meters (33,500 feet). 🌍 A Unique Perspective from the Moon to Earth Our Home An extraordinary NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration #vizualization from near the 🌔 Moon's South Pole. This perspective offers more than just a stunning view; it serves as a profound reminder of our responsibility towards our planet and our place in the universe. This animation compresses six months into two and a half minutes of unusual dynamics of the Earth and ☀ Sun. The perpetual twilight casts long, rotating shadows across the lunar landscape, marked by craters like Idel′son L, Amundsen, and Nobile, and the towering Mons Mouton. 🌱 Our Role in Protecting Earth I am inspired from this lunar perspective to appreciate the balance of our own environment. It's a call to action for #sustainability, #conservation, and mindful #stewardship of the Earth. From #climatechange to pollution, our collective actions as professionals, innovators, and global citizens, has the power and responsibility to make a difference. Take a moment to marvel this unique perspective and reflect on how to take action towards protecting our beautiful, irreplaceable #Earth. https://lnkd.in/er8Bm7qh

🌞 Today's solar eclipse reminds us of the mesmerizing dance of celestial bodies. But beyond the spectacle, let's marvel at the evolution of technology safeguarding our eyes during such events. From basic welder's glass to advanced solar viewing glasses, the journey underscores human ingenuity. Initially, welder's glass was repurposed for eclipse viewing, offering limited protection. However, advancements led to the creation of specialized solar viewing glasses, ensuring safe observation without compromising on clarity. This progression epitomizes our relentless pursuit of innovation in safeguarding both curiosity and safety. The same spirit of innovation echoes in defense technology. Just as we've refined eclipse viewing glasses, defense innovations continually push boundaries to enhance security and safeguarding. Whether it's in developing cutting-edge surveillance systems or protective gear, the goal remains consistent: to evolve and adapt to new challenges, ensuring a safer world. Let today's eclipse serve as a testament to human progress, from the wonders of the cosmos to the advancements safeguarding our vision and beyond. #SolarEclipse #Innovation #DefenseTechnology 🚀🔭
If you’re planning to peep the total #SolarEclipse on April 8, it’s also the perfect opportunity to get some unforgettable imagery! Whether you’re an amateur photographer or a selfie pro, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration is offering a few photography tips that will be useful during the eclipse.

Have you ever had an idea so inspiring, it consumes you for years? That's exactly what happened to photographer Valerio Minato, whose dedication to capturing a once-in-a-lifetime celestial alignment recently earned him NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Astronomy Picture of the Day award. For 6 years, Valerio meticulously planned and waited, studying the moon's phases, weather patterns, and the perfect vantage point to capture the moon perfectly aligned with Turin's Superga Basilica and the majestic Monviso peak. His story reminds us that achieving extraordinary things often requires more than just hustle. It demands patience, meticulous planning, and a clear vision. Just like Valerio, we juggle multiple pursuits as Slashies, often feeling the pressure to rush and multitask. But sometimes, the most impactful results come from taking a step back, recalibrating, and strategically planning for the future. What audacious goals do you hold close? What strategic steps can you take today to bring them into focus? Think of it as framing your own "perfect shot." Valerio prepared 6 years for this one-in-a-million shot. How long are you willing to prepare to realise your perfect vision? #slashielife #dreambig #nevergiveup #astrophotography #inspiration #Nasa P.S. Sometimes, especially with space related apps, you don’t need a whole imagery webservice to skin a basic globe. Update to version 1.20.0 of #OrbPro and you will notice a slight change to the imagery providers. We have two embedded providers, one using the NASA Blue Marble daytime whole earth imagery, and one using the NASA Black Marble whole earth nighttime imagery. A few low resolution layers are now embedded in the library itself, and can be used without a server.
