May 18: International Fascination of Plants Day Plants fascinate and captivate us with the beauty of their shapes and colors. Simple arguments that fascinate and captivate some more than others. When we get to know them better, they fascinate us with the appropriateness of their choices, in direct relation to their contexts and with other forms of life. An "almost intelligence" that, although it isn't, intrigues, challenges, and fascinates us. This day serves as a reminder of the importance of plants in our lives. They provide oxygen, food, medicine, and countless other resources essential to our well-being. By learning more about plants and appreciating their beauty and complexity, we can foster a greater respect for the natural world and contribute to its preservation. Join in the celebration by visiting botanical gardens or simply taking a moment to observe the plants around you. Let yourself be captivated by their quiet elegance and the subtle intelligence that governs their existence. International Fascination of Plants Day is a call to appreciate the green tapestry of life that enriches our planet and to commit to its conservation for future generations. Helena Freitas

⏳ History, herstory ... The land that is now Wonderland was farmed, then developed as a camping and leisure location, then left to rewild (effectively) and is now being restored to appropriate - albeit convivial - ecosystem. 🧊 Before any of that, of course, the land was stewarded for thousands of years by Native Americans (specifically Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk, Kickapoo and Peoria); and before that, if you go back far enough, it was beneath millions of tons of ice. 📖 As current stewards of the land, we are also well-placed to tell its story. Over the next 6-9 months, we will be publishing our findings on Patreon. Some of that story is beyond reach today. Some of it can be accessed through historical archives, and some by scientific testing. Some of the story requires a little imagination, and some we are in the process of making now. ⁉️ Our Patreon is here: https://lnkd.in/gYq_Kc6G. Come and support us, and share in the historical investigation. And just to get a sense of how things have changed, here's Pete Berry's wife "proving a pretty girl can make more than one catch" (!!!)

🌟 5 Takeaways from My First 2 Days at IAAPA Orlando + 1 BONUS! 🌟 1. The best place to network with potential clients before the fair officially begins? The lines before entering the conferences! Who knew waiting could be so productive? 2. Having a roaring mechanical dinosaur next to your booth can be a bit problematic by hour 5... let's just say the odds of it becoming extinct before the fair ends are slim. 3. Apparently, having two Valeries on the team is considered hilarious by most industry folks. @Valeria Rizzo Some even claim our recruitment system might be biased against the remaining 99.99999% of the population that isn’t named Valeria. 4. White wine is always better than red wine at IAAPA events… but honestly, it still leaves much to be desired! Next time, I’ll stick to beer! 🍻 5. A wise industry veteran shared a sneaky tip: pretend you want to buy Paw Patrol goodies for your kid on the last day of the fair… chances are, you might just walk away with them for FREE! (Still need to test this out. 🤞) BONUS: I couldn’t ask for a better team to share this experience with! Salvo Fallica Valeria Rizzo Red Raion Excited to create meaningful connections and share valuable experiences together! #IAAPA #Networking #IndustryInsights #Teamwork 🎉

Save the date for the 3rd annual OMNOM Fall Festival - a celebration of permanent culture 🌱🕺🪘. This year’s hosts for the Eureka Springs, Arkansas, event are Family Permaculture, PermaCulture Party, and OMNOM (Ozark Mountain Nibbly Organic Mushrooms). What is permanent culture, you might ask? Simply put - human culture that is designed to last for centuries, and even millennia. If we observe Indigenous cultures that have thrived for centuries, we discover commonalities: 1) Living in harmony with the natural world and Mama Earth 🌎🐝🦆. 2) Working together and nurturing loving communities 🤝 💞. 3) Prioritizing cultural expression, such as dance, music, and art 💃🎶🎭. At this year’s festival - we cultivate all three of these societal building blocks. We aim to: -Be nice, be safe, and have fun. -Leave the land better than when we arrived. -Nurture family-friendly, educational, and playful activities. -Inspire exuberant self-expression and creativity. We’ll be releasing additional information soon! ✌🏼💚💃🏼🌱

We hear about data all the time, but where does data come from and what does it make us do 🤖 ? On May 13th for the Pint of Science festival I'll be talking about data fetishism in green finance, along with two of my Geography colleages, Mark Mulligan and James Millington, who will share their experiences collecting and working with environmental data 🌏 . 📈“Lack of data”; “Poor data quality”; “Not enough data points”; “Gaps in data” are excuses often used to delay environmental action. Demand for ESG data within the green finance industry is a case in point. As disclosure approaches have become the norm to drive sustainability commitments, data providers – often enrolling environmental scientists, are now reigning supreme. Unpacking the notion of “data”, this talk will prompt us to think about whose concerns and interests are served by different data discourses and uses" 📉 🌿 Grab your tickets here ▶ https://bit.ly/3y4rVbG
Researcher/writer/speaker specialising in forest protection/climate change mitigation/civil society/cross-sectoral partnerships. Currently looking at NGO legitimacy in Cambodia's protected forests.
we still have tickets left for two of our events (13th and 14th) come and enjoy an informal night of Geography talks from our researchers over a pint of beer (or other beverage) tickets £5
