Is Nokia really back with this new 3D Audio Feature? 🚀 Their latest innovation, a technology called “Immersive Voice and Audio Services”, helps us no longer experience calls as flat as we did decades ago - but in 3D Sound! “It is the biggest leap forward in the live voice calling experience since the introduction of monophonic telephony audio used in smartphones and PCs today.” NOKIA DID THEIR COMEBACK? “Nokia was able to successfully demonstrate the IVAS technology in a real-time call even though the technology has not yet been implemented in mobile networks”. OK so far the PR, let’s have a look why this matters: We as humans hear sound three-dimensionally every day - now we can finally have this experience with a phone. 👂 Imagine having a conversation and being able to hear the voices around you - almost as if the person on the other end of the line was right next to you. Nokia Leads the Way with World's First 3D Audio Phone Call   Nokia has achieved a milestone by making the first phone call using 3D spatial audio over a cellular network, employing the 3GPP Immersive Video and Audio Services (IVAS) codec. Part of the upcoming 5G Advanced upgrade, this codec enhances call quality by providing lifelike, three-dimensional sound in real-time, unlike the current monophonic calls that use a single audio channel. This innovation significantly improves both personal and professional interactions by allowing each participant's voice to come from a distinct direction, replicating natural positioning in a physical space and making voice calls feel like face-to-face conversations. The IVAS codec can enable spatial audio in most smartphones with at least two microphones, a common feature in modern devices. As this technology becomes standardized, network providers, chipset manufacturers, and handset makers can start integrating it into their products.
