First-Ever Commercial Spacewalk by a private astronaut !! 👨🏻🚀 Reflecting on 2023's remarkable space missions—ISRO - Indian Space Research Organization's Chandrayaan-3 stood out as a true highlight for me. Now, 2024 has commenced with a thrilling start! SpaceX , a company I deeply admire, has launched the first batch of "Direct to Cell" satellites—a breakthrough we've eagerly awaited. Looking at SpaceX 's ambitious roadmap for this year, the anticipation is palpable: 1️⃣ 96 launches in 2023 were incredible, and now an even more astonishing 144 missions are lined up for 2024! That's a launch almost every 2.8 days. 2️⃣ From 3 successful crewed missions to the International Space Station last year, SpaceX plans 5 commercial space missions in 2024. Notably, "Polaris Dawn," a free-flying mission to LEO, promises to mark history with the first-ever spacewalk by a private astronaut. 3️⃣ Witnessing the super heavy booster's landing on the launch pad is an eagerly awaited milestone. 4️⃣ And let's not forget the progress on Artemis 3, scheduled for 2025/2026—an endeavor that's set to define the future of space exploration. "Artemis 3's astronauts will wear spacesuits equipped with 4G connectivity — the same 4G that makes up the majority of Earth's mobile phone networks today. The spacesuits, Axiom Space's AxEMU models, will be able to connect to a 4G network designed by Nokia. Astronauts can use the network to perform feats like broadcasting high-definition video. On Earth, a mobile network consists of a grid of base stations — the towers that dot the 21st century's landscape — equipped with a radio array. A wholesale mobile tower is obviously a bit difficult to carry to the moon, so Nokia's design compresses all of a tower's base station equipment into a box that can fit onto a lunar lander. "For the Artemis 3 mission, we will be able to reach astronauts up to 2 kilometers [1.25 miles] away from the lander," Thierry E. PUPPETEER's ceiling crawler vehicles, equipped with Constant Force Modules, provide gravity off-loading to multiple astronauts, rovers and equipment allowing each to freely move and interact without the usual constraints of crane based solutions. The system allows physically close interactions and can accurately track and follow the natural movements of a person/rover moving under the ceiling crawler. I confess, I was wrong... 🚀 A few years ago, when a particular space company (& its outspoken CEO) suggested that they'd be catching landing rockets using arms (later known as chopsticks), I was highly skeptical. I thought it was silly and highly improbable, if not close to impossible. However... Late last night, I found myself watching a live stream of their first catch attempt (along with a few hundred thousand others) and was left speechless - filled with awe, excitement, and inspiration. SpaceX just accomplished one major step forward in space exploration. From an engineering perspective, it’s absolutely amazing to see multiple extremely complex systems working perfectly (both individually and together) to bring a skyscraper-sized rocket booster gracefully down with pinpoint precision, right between two moving chopsticks. As a kid, gazing at the stars always brought me a sense of awe and scientific curiosity. Space travel and astronauts gave me inspiration and hope. It’s amazing what we, as humans, can achieve when we put our minds together and believe in endless (and positive) possibilities. [GalaxySpaceNewsGH: ISS Astronauts Take Shelter In Boeing Starliner After June 26 Satellite Breakup] Nine astronauts on the space station briefly moved to their docked return spacecraft late Wednesday (June 26) as a satellite broke up in low Earth orbit. The Expedition 71 crew on the International Space Station (ISS) went to their three spacecraft, including Boeing Starliner, shortly after 9 p.m. EDT (0200 GMT), according to a brief NASA update on X, formerly known as Twitter. As the ISS follows a time zone identical to GMT, according to the European Space Agency, the astronauts were likely in their sleep period when the incident occurred. The procedure was a "precautionary measure", NASA officials added, stating that the crew only stayed in their spacecraft for about an hour before they were "cleared to exit their spacecraft, and the station resumed normal operations." NASA did not specify which satellite was associated with the incident, but satellite monitoring and collision detection firm LeoLabs identified a "debris-generating event" that same evening.
