Last evening marked a significant breakthrough in my ongoing journey with wearable data. Most people strive to hit personal records in the gym or on the track. As someone who struggles with recovery, hitting a PR of 98% on my WHOOP was a massive milestone for me! In no particular order here are a few of what I believe to be contributing factors: -I'm about a week back into CrossFit after taking a few months off. During this time I primarily walked or biked in zone 2 and performed strength training with no HIIT. I am tired when I go to hit the hay! -Back home. My first night on my Eight Sleep mattress in about three months made a noticeable difference. Having the cold mattress (I go to sleep with the bed set to 68 F) was heavenly and made a different impact on me than just being in the cold air. -Glucose Monitoring: I started actively observing and managing blood sugar levels after seeing how my evening meal was influencing my sleep patterns. Dinner was an intentional Caesar salad and steak, chewed slowly while I watched the sunset. -Hydration: Ensuring I'm well-hydrated throughout the day has become a non-negotiable element of my regimen. Also trying to consume most of this liquid by 5 pm so I'm not running to the bathroom all night. -Screen Detox: I've strictly refrained from screens post-sundown and during bedtime to reduce blue light exposure. Interestingly enough this has never prevented me from falling asleep, but still seems to impact recovery. -Regulated Caffeine: Maintaining my intake to just two cups of coffee, and ensuring no caffeine post midday. -Breathwork: Taking a cue from a recent podcast between Kelly Starrett and Tim Ferriss, I've adopted breathing techniques that expand my thoracic spine and lower back, which could be influencing sleep quality. Notes* Note that I had a warning about elevated Skin Temperature. I think this might just be the mattress's warming function designed to assist with waking. It's an intriguing data point that warrants further exploration. As I continue to refine and experiment with these parameters, the question remains: can I consistently replicate these results? #WearableData #digitalhealth #SleepOptimization ROOK / Jonas Dücker / Marco Benitez / Gabriela Cordero
