Embracing offsite manufacturing is a crucial step in addressing the productivity crisis, making industrialized construction a vital solution to the contraction challenges faced in the United States. 2️⃣ 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐲'𝐬 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 Integrating biomimicry principles into building projects leads to remarkable sustainability improvements. When construction involves biomimetics at its core, it minimizes a structure's direct impact on the environment. Moreover, it enhances the quality of life for both inhabitants and surrounding ecosystems. The convergence of these innovative approaches not only transforms how we build but also aligns with the growing demand for sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective solutions. → How do you envision the role of these creative solutions in driving the much-needed disruption in the construction industry? 🤔 → What additional innovative methods can further push the boundaries of Industrialized Construction while meeting investor and consumer demands? 🧐 #ConstructionInnovation #IndustrializedConstruction #SustainableBuilding Ken Semler Gary Fleisher Audree Grubesic Doug Tollin, Tom Hardiman, Gerry Dunne Andrew Xue Nick Masci Vijay Patel Chris Moeller Candice Delamarre Dafna Kaplan Eric Scott Lawrence Samuelson Gon Zifroni Eric Schaefer Carson Holmquist Peter DeMaria Liviu PERIANU Merrick Macomber Aarni Heiskanen Steve Glenn Edie Dillman Chad Patton Gary Eagleton Scott Urban Greg Howes Charles Leahy Dennis McMahon Paul Richards Konstantin Daskalov Karl Dixon Andrew Seelye Lucas Toffoli Matt Graves Jason Blenker Angela Gardner

Couldn’t agree more on the biomimicry potential for the AEC industry. The industry has not even scratched the surface on the potential there. Treating buildings as living breathing organisms leads us to principles like passivehouse and Living Building Challenge. But while a great step in the right direction, these standards are about as close to true biomimcy as the Pixar character Wall-e is to being a human.

Great advice but disruption in an holistic manner that recognizes site issues as important as factory issues!

My personal drives are (1) reducing the cost of OS at market & enterprise level to then (2) incorporate sustainable innovation in the manufacturing process to be optimized throughout the life cycle of products produced. The question I ask myself as to Biomimicry is it a 3rd phase or can we incorporate effectively in (2), considering the protracted period we remain a circular motion as a market in the attainment of (1). I lived in Beijing at the time of the Olympics and my office at the time was just off the site, I watch the Birds Nest built, and while the driver was the event, if we can match that type of structure on a sustainable platform who would argue?

Having done only construction in all my career of fifty years, nothing excites me more than hearing ideas from the industry to answer the problems of the people-- Cost, Quality, Time, Environment sustainability and so on. So if the prefab homes can build at double the speed and half the cost with the required quality and affordability, what are we waiting for? My guess is that above opinion is of 2% of the people who have stakes in this business --the rest 98% are not convinced. Because , may be it is too good to believe Or the above claims are not demonstrated and for the common people, seeing is believing. Or simply because they just do not like this idea. What ever be the reasons, the givers cannot call the shots if there are no takers. So instead of forcing the pace and trying to push this down the throats of the people, let this transform on it's own like so many other things

Industrialise housing, it already is, look at the components in every day use and look at the volumes of these goods, they are massive, now New homes! What needs to be done to make these accessible, industrialising anything comes from a demand, that needs delivery, difine those needs, and you will start to understand what it will take to deliver them on an industrial scale. Work backwards.

Nolan Browne I just did a section on biomimicry in my open-innovation workshop. The answers to some of these complex problems are right in front us....in nature.
