$100 refund and a room upgrade, our getaway ended on a high note. Last weekend, my husband and I decided to be tourists. We spent a weekend in Park City, Utah, just 45 minutes from our home. As non-skiers, we took in the sights of the Olympic Park from 2002 and had a nice lunch downtown. Ready to soak in the hot tub and the specular view of the mountains at dusk, we checked into the hotel. Splurging on a luxury room with a view, our excitement was immediately deflated as we were met with an obstructed view and a nonprivate balcony. It's not what you say, it's how you say it, these words of wisdom from my mother came to mind. Instead of storming in with frustration, I went back to the front desk and outlined the situation: -We booked and invested in a luxury room with a view and private amenities -The room didn't meet our expectations or request -Given their commitment to customer satisfaction, was there anything they would do to change our experience? The outcome: $100 refund and a room upgrade. On vacation, at work, and in life, we often encounter situations where we want to change the outcome. Learning how to develop the soft skills like active listening and problem solving can help you upgrade your experience along side others. 🙌🏾 It's possible and easier than you think. Making creating training quicker, easier and less stressful by providing little and often on-demand and PRACTICAL support for busy LONE L&D professionals
Today was a beautiful day, so I went sailing. I'm a member of a sailing club, so I pay an annual subscription. Like all clubs, there are a few hard-core members. They turn up to EVERYTHING. To the racing, the social events, the 'free and easy' sessions. They sail at least once a week and really do get their money's worth. Most of them give a lot back to the club too, as it's usually these members who take on duties to keep the club running. But they are probably just 20% of the total membership. I don't go along that often - maybe 10 or 12 times a year. I go because I want to sail as an occasional hobby and I need to keep my skills up. I get to use a boat, and I'm always made to feel welcome. The more experienced members will offer help and guidance too. I'm guessing there are a LOT of members who go as often as we do. And of course, there will be a small number of members who pay their fee and don't even sail once. Maybe life gets in the way, but they know they can come along if they want to. The resources and help are there for them. And that's the nature of memberships. As long as you get what YOU want from it, it's worthwhile. In the VIP membership of The Training Designer's Club, there is a 'hard core' of people who show up OFTEN. There's also a good proportion of people who access the resources as and when they need them, maybe ask a question now and then and come along to a Drop-In maybe 6 times a year. I like to think that they are made to feel welcome when they do come along. And there's a small number of people who don't actively engage for a while, but they know that IF they need something, they can get it. You don't need to use everything all the time to get the value... as long as you get what you need when you need it.

I’m a happy camper today and I hate camping. 😆🤣 😰Rather like camping, I approach reading the feedback I receive following a training workshop with trepidation. 👀It doesn’t matter how many sessions I’ve run, how confident I am, how well I believe it went, I expect and welcome critical feedback. Even though I can count the number of negative reviews I’ve received on the fingers of one hand. It’s never easy to receive negative feedback. 🌟All feedback is good feedback and we learn and adapt our training from it. However, facilitating training is like a stage performance. You’re performing to a critical audience who will either like you, enjoy the session and learn something new or not. 👏🏼So I’m delighted that I delighted the audience on our Case Notes and Record Keeping workshop this week. Good case notes and record keeping is customer service 101.
