BIG NEWS: Yesterday, the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) unanimously voted to approve sending a $20B affordable housing bond to the voters on the November 2024 ballot! If passed, the measure will support the development and preservation of approximately 90,000 affordable homes throughout the Bay Area.

New Dawn for Housing? Check out my article in @inside-housing on the government's key proposals to boost both the quantity and quality of housing in England.
In summary, though there is little, if any, extra government money there are still ambitious plans to deliver new homes by making the process less difficult for both the public and private sectors. Key reforms are also promised to bolster the rights of leaseholders and private tenants.

Today UK Finance Finance published the Homes We Need report. It assesses the current state of our housing market and proposes solutions to address the UK’s 4.3 million housing shortfall.
The new government has acted quickly to encourage more housebuilding and ensure that affordable housing is a key part of its new targets. However, the progress needed will not be achieved without cooperation across the public and private sectors.
In this report we set out a range of recommendations including making the planning process simpler, removing some of the barriers first-time buyers face and ensuring we’re meeting the housing needs of our ageing population.

Hopefully, whoever is next will understand the importance of providing adequate (and affordable) housing 🏡
I am so lucky to have gotten onto the property ladder 🏡 when it was still possible to do that on a normal salary 💰 but my kids don’t stand a chance.
It’s time to make sure there are enough properties to meet the demand but within achievable budgets!

The country is not planning for enough new homes.
The planning system has consistently failed to offer the right incentives and sanctions for councils to maintain up-to-date policies that ensure local housing needs are met. 📈 🏠
Removing mandatory housing targets in 2023 has made things immeasurably worse.
That’s why amongst our asks of the next government is the reversal of December’s changes to the NPPF, reinstating mandatory housing targets and the Five-Year Housing Land Supply. 👇

This feels very important, especially as we head into a General Election. It's time to take the long view on housing and give the sector the certainty it so badly needs so that we can build the homes the country needs and invest adequately in the ones we already have. #housing#housingassociations#generalelection#housingcrisis
