🏥 What is your definition of health? 👇🏻 For me it is certainly not this one... 🛑 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭, 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭-𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘺. 🏛 This definition is used by the World Health Organization since 1948 (!). Although it was relevant for that period, it has more and more been criticised over the past years. 😦 The 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 "𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡" 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞. The definition also becomes counterproductive as it declares people with chronic diseases and disabilities definitively ill. ☝🏻 In 2011, Huber (BMJ 2011;343:d4163) proposed an already more acurate definition and states being healthy is... ❤️ ...𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘱𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭, 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴... 🌍 Although this definition is very relevant in todays world, full of change and challenge, I like to add another element and would say that being healthy is... ---- 💚 ...the ability to adapt, self-manage 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 in the face of 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥, physical, social and emotional challenges... ---- 🔎 The difference may be small.
