NORBIT Subsea reposted this
Earlier this summer, I had the privilege to join Armor-Hydro Ltd in the search for lost WWII era 1500Tons class French Submarines across the Globe. The Phenix submarine (#Q157) disappeared during an exercise in Vietnam back in June 1939. We fully mobilized for a successful mapping campaign last June. Unlucky this time, our team remains hopeful for future expeditions. Thanks to the generous support of our #ZRC1904 sponsor and technical network, we were able to utilize top-of-the-range geophysical survey equipment. PrimeGPS and NORBIT Subsea generously provided surface equipment with an i79h #winghead MBES aided with its integrated Trimble Applanix IMU and carbon side pole for bathymetry. SEABER provided us with a 300m rated #YucoScan AUV for detailed sidescan sonar imagery at depth, both incredibly easy to transport and mobilize on a vessel of opportunity. Fugro generously provided us with PPP corrections through their Marinestar service for the duration of the project. Despite challenging local politics, big Thanks to Yann Poiré at #RainbowDivers who managed to get us one step closer to the wreck site. Special thanks to Mathieu Kerjean, Océane Barre, VIDAL TEIXEIRA, Morten Stendahl, Yann Roué, Guido Speelman, Les Bender, Nicolas Weber for their invaluable contributions, support, and training throughout this journey. #ZRC1904 / #MKGeo / #Seaber / #PrimeGPS / #Norbit / #Fugro / #RainbowDivers / #DeepBlueAnalysis / #SHOM / #SousMarinPhenix / #LaVoixDuSouvenir / #Q157 Excited for the upcoming expeditions and the potential for more thrilling discoveries ahead! SEABER's #YucoScan is becoming the de facto standard for one-man portable side scan operations. Congrats for the great wotk.
Projects like these require great patience. Keep pushing 👏🏽
Amazing imagery Chris - hopefully there will be another attempt in the future.
Love all you amazing expeditions, Chris
