Last year in November, the European Blockchain Association e.V. came together with Blockchain for Europe, the European Crypto Initiative and INATBA - International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications to deliver a manifesto which aligns the overarching priorities for #blockchain and what it means for Europe’s digital and green future. 🇪🇺 👾 🌱 Right now, the Belgian Council Presidency looms large, talks of #Europeum, the evolution of #EBSI, elections in the European Parliament and a new college of the Commission are all at a singular confluence as we come to the end of one political cycle in anticipation of the next. Our vision, one we hope to share with all stakeholders in Europe but also globally, looks at the potential of this technology to deliver on a robust and cohesive Digital Single Market, reach our #sustainability targets as a Union and drive #digitaltransformation more generally. The European Blockchain Sandbox is an excellent initiative, bringing bright innovators in the emerging blockchain industry in contact with respective regulators. The second cohort is well on its way, and it is a great honor contributing a tiny bit to this journey that drives innovation and smart regulation throughout Europe. In 2018 EU member states created a partnership to develop blockchain-based public services, the European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI). A new legal entity European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC) was created to simplify the creation of multi-country projects and their ability to share costs and governance. And today in an exciting development, The EBSI is transforming into Europeum, a structured entity under the EDIC. Here are the key things from the development, 👉 Europeum aims to establish robust blockchain-based public services, fostering innovation and trust within the EU. 👉 Europeum will operate under the EDIC, ensuring better management and financial collaboration among member states. 👉 Initially Europeum will focus on creating secure, authentic verifiable credentials, a critical step for digital document and product verification. 👉 Led by Belgium, participating nations include Sweden, Italy, Luxembourg, and more, showcasing a strong pan-European commitment. But, Why Does This Matter? Introducing Roman Beck, a leading expert in blockchain technology and digital economy, as a member of the #MiCA Crypto Alliance Steering Committee. He is a Full Professor at the IT-Universitetet i København and the Head of the European Blockchain Center. He is also the Ministry-appointed representative of Denmark at the European Blockchain Partnership Technical Working Group at the EU Commission in Brussels. 💭 Could MiCA do for Liechtenstein what Brexit did for Lithuania? 💭 Liechtenstein is set to become a top destination for crypto firms looking to operate under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation. As an EEA member, the country offers access to both EU and Swiss markets, with an established legal framework that already supports blockchain and digital assets through the Token and Trusted Technology Service Provider Act (TVTG). This regulatory groundwork, combined with Liechtenstein’s strategic location and expertise in the crypto sector, makes it an attractive hub for firms. Companies operating under Swiss regulations can easily expand across the Rhein, leveraging MiCA’s passporting rights. As MiCA implementation progresses, Liechtenstein’s financial regulator (FMA) is already engaging with interested parties, making it easier for businesses to transition smoothly.
