While running a half marathon to raise funds for childhood cancer, completing each step gets you closer to that finish line, and sometimes it pays to see just how far you have come, and how you can pave the way for the 15,000 runners behind you. Be that trend setter. Be the one to set goals. Be that person who paves the way. Keep taking those steps toward your goal. I am amazed by how many of my fellow Allspringers have joined the Expect Miracles Foundation - Financial Services Against Cancer distance challenge in 2024 – we are at 434 Strong! It is a cause close to my heart, taking my dad way to early. It is designed to make a difference where 100% of participant-raised dollars through the Distance Challenge goes to cancer research as well as financial assistance for young adult cancer survivors. I can appreciate how many of us have our specific charities, and that is totally understandable. …so here’s my simple ask: Just “like” this post. That’s all. No strings attached. Approximately 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. Black women in the U.S. are about 40% more likely to die from breast cancer than White women, despite having similar rates of diagnosis. This disparity is largely due to differences in access to quality healthcare, early detection, and treatment options. At CSA, we proudly partner with Susan G. Komen for our annual Breast Cancer Walk because we believe in making a meaningful impact in the fight against breast cancer, a disease that disproportionately affects our community. As a social justice organization, we are committed to addressing health inequities and advocating for equal access to care, education, and support. This walk is more than just a fundraiser—it's a social justice movement that brings awareness to the challenges faced by those in underserved communities. This year marks our 8th year walking with Susan G. Komen, and we are dedicated to continuing the fight against breast cancer, advocating for change, and supporting those affected by this disease. Today is National Cancer Survivors Day, and we're celebrating the courage, resilience and triumphs of survivors like Olivia, who inspire us with their incredible strength and positivity. Olivia was diagnosed with stage IV alveolar rhabodmyosarcoma in 2019 when she was only 9 years old. Olivia endure 2 surgeries, 66 weeks chemo and 28 rounds of proton radiation therapy, all while keeping a positive attitude, even during the hardest moments. Today, Olivia is cancer-free. Now is the perfect time to rally behind kids like Olivia, whose stories remind us why we do what we do. Here's how you can get involved: Plan an event: Organize a virtual or in-person gathering, neighborhood walk or social media challenge to support the OliviaStrong Foundation, Inc. Share Olivia’s Journey: Inspire others by sharing Olivia’s story, or your own, on social media and through personal messages. People connect deeply with stories of hope and triumph. As a cancer survivor, I'd like to offer this advice to managers everywhere. Before you slap pink ribbons all over the office, or send out an email encouraging everyone to wear a pink T-shirt on Friday, please consider whether your Breast Cancer Awareness month actions are meaningful, worthwhile, and respectful of those on your staff who may be patients or survivors. If you are using October simply as a marketing opportunity, without thinking about the impact on those who are facing this disease, that action is not meaningful or respectful. See my previous post re: the campaign Chevrolet is doing to raise money. Direct, substantial, and impactful. (There are lots of organizations doing awesome work this month!) Practice the pause this October, and think about what your purpose is before you splash pink ribbons everywhere. #breastcancerawareness

In 2010, my family embarked on a journey that reshaped our perspective on life, courage, and the power of resilience. Following my son’s diagnosis, we found ourselves navigating through the complexities of emotions, treatments, and the search for hope. It’s been 11 years since the end of treatment (EOT), and our journey has been nothing short of transformative. Recently, I came across a post from Lennox CCF about the book “Fearless Fin,” a story that resonates deeply with my family’s experience. This book not only captures the essence of bravery in the face of adversity but also serves as a beacon of hope for families similar to ours. It eloquently illustrates the journey many of us are all too familiar with, yet often struggle to articulate. “Fearless Fin” is more than just a story; it’s a testament to the indomitable spirit of those fighting battles we can hardly imagine. It reminds us of the importance of support, understanding, and never losing hope, even when faced with the greatest challenges. To anyone navigating through similar storms, know that you’re not alone. Stories like “Fearless Fin” and organisations like Lennox CCF are valuable resources and sources of comfort and strength. As we reflect on our journey and the profound impact of this book, I am reminded of the importance of sharing our stories. They not only provide solace but also illuminate the path for others in similar situations.
