3 steps to ensure a successful, self-service enrollment: 1. Pre-enrollment communication- Utilize multiple mediums of distribution like text messaging, email, and live/webinar meetings. 2. Product Placement- Supplemental Health products like Accident, Hospital, and CI should be placed immediately after major medical because they help to fill the risk exposure between what’s coming out of an employee’s pocket before their medical kicks in. 3. Active Enrollments- Brokers and Employers alike spend coutless hours preparing for OE, take it one step further and ensure your efforts make an impact by requiring all employees to actively accept/decline coverages. This will lead to a higher propensity for employees to engage the information that you distributed in step 1.

HealthForceRx is a software for nurse leaders that organizes all of the information we need to manage our workforce and make effective decisions. HealthForceRx answers these questions (and more!): ✔️How many FTEs do you need to achieve your daily staffing plan? ✔️How many FTEs do you have? ✔️How many FTEs will we have in 3 months, 6 months, or 9 months? ✔️How many FTEs should we hire, and when? How does it do this? ✔️By helping the nurse leader establish an individualized unit-based staffing plan based on budgeted FTE and labor standards. ✔️By providing an interactive and real-time position control. ✔️Through engaging historical statistics that help predict when turnover will occur.

This post will probably be controversial but I’d still like to hear your thoughts on this subject…. Reflecting on the current challenges within the industry, it is evident that the scarcity of experienced MDS Coordinators poses a significant hurdle in the hiring process. The struggle to find qualified candidates is exacerbated by the emergence of applicants lacking the necessary experience. Investing resources in training inexperienced MDS Coordinators risks potential revenue loss, a concern that has been underscored by the recent surge in the requests for MDS support from us as we approach another end-of-month billing cycle. Amidst this backdrop, the question arises: where have all the seasoned MDS Coordinators gone? And why is there so much turnover in this position? Equally important is the query of how to effectively retain the experienced professionals within our teams. In an effort to gain insights into this matter, we recently conducted a poll among 100 MDS Coordinators who have remained with their current company for 1.5 years or more. The results revealed a prevailing sentiment among respondents. The primary reason cited for their loyalty was the absence of mandatory on-call duties or floor work, barring voluntary participation. They expressed concerns regarding the escalating workload attributed to PDPM implementation, emphasizing that the added stress of being on call was a tipping point. Remarkably, a majority indicated that they would prioritize a supportive work environment where being on-call was not mandatory over monetary incentives or enhanced benefits, reaffirming the significance of work-life balance and stress management in their career decisions. Interestingly, the next most significant factor influencing their retention was the opportunity to work from home two days a week. This flexible arrangement proved to be instrumental in fostering a conducive work environment that catered to their well-being and productivity, underscoring the growing importance of remote work options in today's professional landscape. How do you lose an MDS Coordinator in 10 days (or less)? It appears there is no shortage of openings for experienced MDS Coordinators. They are able to pick and choose whichever company has the best offer. And they are choosing employment with LTC companies who acclimate to industry trends. These companies distinguish themselves by offering progressive work arrangements, and also differentiate MDS Coordinators as reimbursement nurses rather than clinical nurses, recognizing the specialized expertise required for accurate and efficient reimbursement processes.
