Another update related to our theme this month - #UAPs! This post is about one of the many reasons why you should care about this issue and why lawmakers around the world are taking it so seriously. How would you feel getting on a commercial airplane knowing that pilots are having near-misses and collisions with unknown and unidentified flying objects? How would you feel if the next business trip or holiday jet-set, your pilot had to take evasive action (really fast, sudden turns) to avoid creashing into a UFO? That feels uncomfortable, doesn't it? It should - because that's exactly what's been happening in our skies. Thanks to some great work by journalist Daniel Otis, the world has gotten access to the below recording - and this kind of thing is happening with shocking frequency according to oath-sworn congressional testimony and data. Right now, there's no international way for commercial pilots - as in, the ones taking you on your family holiday to Mexico in December - to report UAP incidents, but the incidents themselves are happening often. Here's a few other examples from a 2-second google search: - An American Airlines pilot in 2021 reported this incident, also a flight safety issue: https://lnkd.in/gPiN_E7V - Another pilot in 2024 reported this incident: https://lnkd.in/g3NkknAs Thankfully, the recognition of this health and safety risk for the entire airline industry is getting people's attention, and as a result, things are changing - Americans for Safe Aerospace, founded by Ryan Graves, is working on reporting systems for commercial pilots. This flight safety issue is serious, and that's something to have on your mind the next time you have to travel via plane - you can be sure that it'll be on the minds of your pilots. This is one of many reasons we've identified #UAP as one of the most significant disruptors on the horizon. Need to get caught up on why we're talking about UAP, aka UFOs? 8 years ago today, a Porter Airlines Inc. flight to Toronto took evasive action to avoid something "shaped like an upright doughnut or inner tube" over Lake Ontario. Here's the AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL AUDIO which took 2+ years to get via an info request complaint 👉 https://lnkd.in/dhFFat_4 🔍

This paper I wrote with Glen J D McDougall about reform of air traffic control might be of interest given events. It was published in Canadian Public Administration a few years back. We talk about ATC restructuring and observe that the US was an exception to the international trend. https://lnkd.in/eZb9A3zm
