On International Women's Day, I'm highlighting a key finding from our recent report on attitudes toward democracy and representation. Across the 24 countries polled, a median of 50% said policies in their country would improve if more elected officials were women, while only 8% said they would get worse (40% said they would stay the same). Many also want to see more young adults and people from poor backgrounds in office. https://lnkd.in/ezMexZB3

Happy #internationalwomensday2024! Today, our call of action is for funders to reflect on what it means to effectively resource feminist movements to End Violence Against Women. So what does a feminist approach to grantmaking look like? Feminist Sloth guides funders to: 🌻 Support efforts to address intersecting structures of oppression that lead to VAWG. 🌻 Fund programmes that centre women and girls in their diversity and prioritise accountability to them. 🌻 Promote research grounded in feminist approaches and methods. 🌻 Increase funding for feminist-led VAWG programmes and advocacy that address the root cause of violence and Redefine the donor-grantee relationship. 🌻 Redefine the donor-grantee relationship. 🌻 Fund self and collective care initiatives. What's new with SCG's public policy team? Earlier this year, SCG's Public Policy Team announced our new policy agenda! SCG policy agenda moves away from specific issue-based topics and prioritizes achieving long-term systems change. Specifically, our goal is to elevate the intersectional nature of philanthropic work, create a more equitable landscape for historically excluded and marginalized communities and advance racial and gender justice to address the root causes of inequities. This new direction also aims to empower members to expand their advocacy efforts and create change at all levels of government. Thus, in collaboration with our Public Policy Advisory Committee, our team identified proposed legislation and regulation, advocacy initiatives, and collaborative projects that impact the philanthropic sector's work and the communities our members serve. We invite you to review our latest policy agenda below and to contact us if you want to learn more about SCG's policy work: https://buff.ly/4cwHI2x.

#TheRACEReport2023 is out now. We joined other environmental charities to share data on the racial diversity of our organisations. The environment sector continues to have one of the least diverse workforces - across 140 organisations, only 6% of employees are BPOC. There is so much work to be done. Change must be systemic, but transparency and benchmarking are vital first steps in collectively building a diverse and inclusive sector that centres lived experiences. Students Organising for Sustainability (SOS-UK) Read the report, including transparency cards for each participating organisation, here: https://lnkd.in/e8qqERVv
