Just returned from the ''Wind Propulsion 2024'' Event by RINA in association with The International Windship Association (IWSA) at IMO. Sponsored by bound4blue and VAISALA: A really insightful event! As Secretary General, Gavin Allwright reminded us: shipping is the the only truly global industry with a net zero target. The attendees must represent the largest and most focussed collection of people discussing how to achieve that by utilising the wind as a primary means of getting there. The stand outs for me were: 1) An immense collection of rapidly maturing knowledge and enthusiasm around how to design, model and optimise these systems 2) Some real operational experience now exists which underlines great promise 3) Excitement that we will see an acceleration of deployments and ever better results 4) A vision for what more needs to be done must include: helping people choose options, objectively measuring performance (as best we can), and making sure we keep finding ways to ensure operation continues to be as safe as we can make it.

Another excellent conference and opportunity to share more about Anemoi Rotor Sails! Thanks to Green Shiptech China Congress for inviting our Chief Production and Partnerships Officer, Nick Contopoulos, to speak about the positive impact Rotor Sails have on CII, EEDI, and FuelEU✅ Nick also enjoyed sharing more about the results stakeholders can expect to see when combining ANEMOI Rotor Sails with NAPA Voyage Optimisation to enhance the results of wind propulsion even further. Another key takeaway, presented by Gavin Allwright (Secretary at International Windship Association), was that when ship owners vote, wind comes out as one of the most important energy sources for ship propulsion. Over 30% believe this is the case already for 2030 and over 60% for 2050!💨 🚢 Estimate what your fleet could save with Anemoi Rotor Sails: https://lnkd.in/ekYGn4Fv #RotorSails #FlettnerRotors #MagnusEffect #WindPropulsionTechnology #ShipsAndShipping #Decarbonisation #SustainableShipping #EmissionReduction

Dear EnerKíte and Airborne Wind Energy Community, Last Wednesday, we had another successful test flight with our high-performance test wing. We pushed the boundaries by flying under harsh conditions, equipping the wing with air brakes to challenge its operational limits. Despite a brutal 50% reduction in lift at full brakes in borderline 3 - 4 m/s winds and heavy rain, the wing remained fully controllable, and the system performed with its usual safety and robustness. Given the challenging weather conditions on that day, these flight tests have significantly bolstered our confidence in the resilience and reliability of the EnerKíte design. We are now more convinced than ever that we made the right design choice. The EnerKíte: built tough on the ground, high-performing in the sky, and now rock-solid even in shitty weather. #AirborneWindEnergy #Nachhaltigkite #Energiewende #Flugwindkraft #Innovation

𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐊𝐚𝐦𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐱 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐆𝐇𝐆 𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝟒𝟎-𝟓𝟎% The versatile Kamsarmax bulker, currently a flexible and popular size chosen by many dry bulk operators, is designed for worldwide trading and will be fitted out with latest energy-saving features as well as some entirely new ones developed by the partners. Fuel costs are likely to be cut by around half, it is claimed. The design will cost around $10 million more than a conventional Kamsarmax bulker today but the investment should pay back within about five years based on average charter rates. Kongsberg Maritime Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, Oskar Levander, revealed details of the innovative bulk carrier in Oslo yesterday. The ‘Super-Efficient Bulker’ will be equipped with a unique combination of three tiltable Norsepower rotor sails and two bound4blue suction sails to harness the greatest benefits of wind energy, Levander explained. Other features include air lubrication, a controllable pitch propeller, a hybrid shaft generator with frequency control, and an intelligent energy management system.

📢 [#PRESS #RELEASE] Innovative sea trials campaign for offshore cable shape sensing ⚡ The monitoring of dynamic subsea power cables is a highly critical topic for the development of the floating offshore wind farm. Whether for developers, transmission system operators or insurance companies, reliability is the key to success. Several monitoring technologies are available on the market, but few have been tested on a real cable in representative conditions offshore. 🌊 To fill this gap, a unique sea trials campaign was successfully carried out from the 1st to 6th of July 2024 in the Bay of Douarnenez, France, in the framework of #HT20MW project. This experience has enabled the industry to break new ground in more ways than one: data acquisition at sea, using five different technologies simultaneously. The results will be published early 2025 after data post-processing. 🔎 Access press release: https://lnkd.in/eFBYCC4Y EOLINK, EVERAXIS, Ifremer, Université Gustave Eiffel, WINDGLAZ, ADEME, CORIMER, Bpifrance, #France2030, Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique, CADDEN, Sonardyne International Ltd, FEBUS Optics, NKT, Viper Innovations Ltd, Exail, TSM - Thomas Services Maritimes #subsea #dynamic #cable #monitoring #shape #time #space #sea #trials

We are delighted to be able to add a new ship to our fleet very soon. The innovative dry cargo ship, the HELIOS, has just successfully completed its sea trial. The HELIOS sets milestones and provides an exciting outlook for the future of dry cargo shipping. But first things first: “HELIOS” is the name of the sun god in Greek mythology. The color scheme of the new building therefore features numerous sunny yellow accents. The name also emphasizes another special feature of the freighter: the HELIOS is the inland vessel with the largest panel surface installed to date for generating solar energy. The solar panels installed on the hatch roofs can feed an annual energy yield of up to 90,000 kWh into the on-board power supply, thus sustainably reducing gas oil consumption. The HELIOS also has the option of making the “Future Fuel Ready” concept a reality. In future, the midship sections can be used as installation spaces for alternative fuels or gensets. Until then, however, the unused space will be used as cargo space. A novelty in dry cargo shipping and in the fleet of Europe's largest inland waterway shipping company. Many thanks to Maritime Filming Group B.V. for the spectacular shots. #hgkgroup #hgkshipping #seatrial #helios #solarship

At the WindEnergy Hamburg event, I had an engaging discussion with Bernd Brucherseifer from HTM Helicopter Travel Munich GmbH. Bernd shared insights about the company’s role in the offshore wind industry since 2009, where they operate helicopters for offshore wind farms, including a pilot project on a floating turbine. He touched on the challenges, such as a shortage of helicopters and evolving operation and maintenance (O&M) strategies, noting that helicopters are increasingly recognized as a reliable means for transporting personnel and supplies, especially for hoisting operations. #WindEnergy #OffshoreWind #HelicopterTravel #Sustainability #RenewableEnergy #Aviation #O&M #FloatingTurbines #HTM #WindIndustry #GreenEnergy #CleanTechnology #PersonnelTransport #Innovation

🌟Congratulations to Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis on setting a new world record in pole vault! 🌟 Years of practice, preparation, and the will to succeed went into that extraordinary moment. Hopefully, the record will stand for years. 𝘋𝘪𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘥? In 2019, we managed to add 198 wind turbine blades onto one vessel; 22 more blades than the previous record. The record was set in collaboration with Vestas on a shipment from Italy to the US - and still stands. See how we managed the stacking: #NextLevelLogistics #ScanGlobalLogistics #UncomplicateYourWorld
