Does the #automotive industry have to pay more for plastics with better Co2 emission factors? Not at all... This industry has been meeting very ambitious targets for reducing #Co2 #emissions for a long time. #Plastics suppliers to these manufacturers must have a corresponding emission factor. Values here range from 0 to 10 (the closer to 0, the better). For example, Mercedes often needs plastics that have a value of 2. Most plastics do not meet these conditions, and if they do, the price goes up a lot (from 2 euros per kilo it goes up to 3.5). There is a supplier who has a #polyacetate and distributes it throughout Europe. This polyacetate has a factor of less than 2 as standard and costs.... 1.8 euros. PLASTICS HOLD KEY TO HELPING CARS MEET MILEAGE & EMISSIONS GOALS UNDER NEW FUEL EFFICIENCY STANDARDS

Ever hear the phrase “Hole in the Tailpipe”? It refers to automotive emissions legislation that focuses exclusively on “tailpipe” or use-phase emissions. Almost all current legislation focuses on use-phase emissions. Tailpipe-only regulation considers #GHG emissions solely from the combustion of fuel. “Well to Wheel” also considers emissions from fuel production, but is still focused only on the use phase of the vehicle. Both of these fail to capture the emissions from the rest of the vehicle’s life cycle. The right way is Life-Cycle Assessment, which considers emissions from the entire product life cycle, from raw material extraction through to final end of life disposal or recycling. The automotive industry is currently undergoing a transformation, with most manufacturers adapting to increasingly demanding market requirements and growing environmental and sustainability concerns.  Hydrophobic fibres made from 100% recycled materials are a prime example of the automotive industry's response to these challenges and are a responsible option that brings multiple benefits in terms of vehicle safety, protection and durability.

Hydro has inaugurated a new aluminium recycling plant in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, with an initial capacity to process 15,000 tonnes of post-consumer scrap annually. The facility, adjacent to Hydro’s advanced aluminium extrusion plant, mainly serves the automotive sector. It contributes to the company's efforts in promoting low-carbon, closed-loop recycling, where scrap from production is reused. This move strengthens Hydro’s position in the European market for sustainable aluminium solutions, with plans to grow recycling capacity towards 2030. The plant is part of Hydro’s global recycling network.
