Production and procurement of anode-grade natural and synthetic graphite within EU are currently very limited and with significant CO2eq emissions. And my network knows how much I hate CO2eq emission.   Anodes contains mainly of graphite and most of the this natural graphite used in EU in 2023 was imported, raising supply risks. Furthermore, there are several difficulties in meeting the ever-increasing demand for anode grade graphite with recycling. ♻ Insight from my team led by Mojtaba Gilzad Kohan: Currently using the best of available technologies, every 1kg of second-life graphite, will result in 9.8 kg embeddedCO2eq. In fact, alternative technologies are the best viable option for LiB anode production. Silicon-based composites are, getting closer to the readiness levels required by LiB performance. However, only a solution combining scalability, price and supply constraints can overcome the hurdles of commercialization. At Granode we are proud to present a solution by fabricating silicon-rich anodes and purified graphite (not in LiB value chain) that outperform conventional anode blends. 💪 And more benefits to come......

Fastmarkets BRM Battery Raw Materials Day 1: “After Rain comes sunshine”, as the Dutch saying goes, the title of one of the EU market overviews and an accurate description of the atmosphere today. My takeaways today: - Although the news on production delays and factory cancellations dominates the news today, by 2026 over 50% of Europe’s planned 2035 battery production capacity is planned to be operational. - Graphite recycling is becoming a topic to investigate in EU because of the positive business case recycling LFP vs NMC batteries. As an anode active material supplier, at CarbonX we are curious and will watch that space! Thanks for an enlightening "silent disco" panel and discussion!

In our work, the recycling of two battery scrap fractions obtained from mechanical pretreatment was integrated with a Ni-slag cleaning process at laboratory scale. In addition to gold and silver, up to 15 other precious and special metals can also be recovered. In 2023, the Swico - Verband der Digitalisierer and SENS eRecycling Technical Committee (Swico/SENS TC) addressed the questions of how this works from a technical standpoint, what the limits are and how things stand with the recovery of metals from lithium-ion batteries as part of a further training course." https://lnkd.in/ejRa8f35

NEO is thrilled to be part of the EU-funded ReSoURCE project focused on recycling spent refractory bricks containing key materials like MgO, corundum, and graphite. 🧱 Using innovative technologies like hyperspectral imaging and LIBS, we’re optimizing sorting systems for better resource recovery from spent bricks. ♻ While the project is progressing fast, we have another insight to share from some of the hyperspectral analysis that we performed. Here, different input materials such as white-fused and brown-fused alumina, sintered- and fused MgO and bauxite were scanned with our HySpex VNIR-1800 and SWIR-384 cameras. 🌟 Innovative Copper Recycling Technology to be Presented at the IGMNiR-VDM-BDSV-MRF Meeting in Warsaw🌟 On September 3, 2024, during the IGMNiR - Economic Chamber of Non-Ferrous Metals and Recycling-VDM Verband Deutscher Metallhändler und Recycler e. V.-BDSV Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Stahlrecycling- und Entsorgungsunternehmen e. V. -Metaal Recycling Federatie (MRF) meeting in Warsaw, the results of a significant project will be presented. This project, executed by Mercury HM in collaboration with the Łukasiewicz Research Network - Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals (Łukasiewicz – IMN), and co-financed by NCBR, will mark a notable advancement in the field of copper metallurgy. As Piotr Madej, Leader of the Copper Metallurgy Division at Łukasiewicz - Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals, will state: "During the presentation, the results of the project carried out by Mercury HM and Łukasiewicz - Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and co-financed by NCBR, will be presented. A demonstration will be given of the results of the research, which has been the basis for the development and implementation of a new technology for the mechanical processing of power cable scrap.
