The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA has officially closed its investigation into airbag recalls involving BMW, Honda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, and Volkswagen. The focus was on NADI airbags, where defective foil seals posed a potential risk of moisture entering the inflators. This recall, distinct from previous Takata airbag concerns, addresses the possibility of slow airbag deployment or violent inflator ruptures. It's essential for affected vehicle owners to remain vigilant about safety recalls. Industry collaboration and adherence to safety standards are paramount to ensuring the well-being of drivers and passengers. Stellantis has announced the recall of several different models. Vehicles impacted include common fleet vehicles the 2023-24 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500. As well as the 2023 Chrysler Voyager and 2023-24 Pacifica minivans. The recall is due to an issue with the driver's side airbag assembly which could lead to possibly not deploying in a crash. Owners of impacted vehicles will be notified so dealers can inspect and replace the part if necessary. To see if your vehicle is one of the ones affected by the recall, the story includes a link to NHTSA's recall website. #Ram #Chrysler #Recall #DriverSafety #FleetSafety #Motorlease #FleetManagement #WhatEverItTakes

The Alliance for Automotive Innovation is calling on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to evaluate its recent automatic emergency braking (AEB) rule. The Alliance argues that current AEB technology is insufficient to meet the high standards required, and the industrys suggestions were ignored during the rulemaking process. With the rule set to be implemented by 2029, the Alliance warns it could lead to "unpredictable, erratic" driving and increased rear-end collisions. They emphasize that only one vehicle met the rule's stringent stopping distance requirements in NHTSAs tests. #AutoIndustry #AutomaticBraking

New from NHTSA this morning: Top auto safety regulators upgraded a probe into nearly 3 million Honda Motor Co. vehicles to further assess the frequency and safety issues related to unexpected activation of emergency braking systems. NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation first opened a preliminary evaluation into Honda in February 2022 to probe 2018-19 Honda Accord midsize cars and 2017-19 Honda CR-V compact crossovers. NHTSA updated the probe to an engineering analysis on Monday and expanded the scope to include 2020-2022 Honda CR-V and Accord vehicles. 50 injuries and 30 alleged crashes were reported, according to NHTSA. NHTSA scraps proposed vehicle-to-vehicle communication mandate: In a federal document slated to be published Monday, NHTSA said it was scrapping its 2017 proposal because of the emergence of new technologies such as cellular vehicle-to-everything, or C-V2X, and a Federal Communications Commission decision in 2020 to split a key spectrum band that was long reserved for automakers. #cars #auto #car

The latest automaker pushback against NHTSA's recall demand of 52 million ARC airbags is concerning, but did we expect any different? Maybe from Autoliv. GM is currently being sued for downplaying the safety risks associated with the ARC recall. They have a track record of prioritizing profits over safety, evidenced by their efforts to avoid the Takata airbag recall. With over 20 million ARC airbags in GM vehicles, their pushback is par for the course. VW's reluctance to recall defective Takata airbags in Europe, despite being forced to do so in the U.S., also highlights a worrying profit-first mentality. They actually boasted their European Takata driver inflators were materially different than other automakers. Complete nonsense then and we shouldn't listen to them now. ARC's dubious framing of a rare rupture chance is the most disappointing. When safety companies like ARC and Autoliv, which I respected, downplay risks, it's a red flag. These companies know there's a looming victim, yet they prioritize finances. Every life matters. The ARC airbag issue isn't just a statistical concern; it's about the real danger to lives. We must not wait for the next victim. #automotive #safety #safetyfirst #Takata #ARC #airbag #recall #automotiveindustry https://lnkd.in/dRa6TC4t Automakers oppose US bid to force recall of 52 million air bag inflators
