What if we told you project close-out started at the beginning of the project? We believe in mastery and creating a world where your project runs smoothly so you can focus your time on the things that are most important. That's why our close-out process starts at the beginning of each project by establishing those processes from day one. Learn how we do that below:

#The_fist_of_five The fist of five: In this technique, the project manager asks the team to show their level of support for a decision by holding up a closed fist (indicating no support) up to five fingers (indicating full support). If a team member holds up fewer than three fingers, the team member is given the opportunity to discuss any objections with the team. The project manager continues the fist-of-five process until the team achieves consensus (everyone holds up three or more fingers) or agrees to move on to the next decision.

The best way to do that is by spending some one-on-one time with your sponsor to confirm the ins and outs of project scope, timing, and resources.

Project kickoffs – they're not just meetings; they're your make-or-break opportunity to build credibility, identify naysayers, and set the tone for the rest of the project. But let’s be real: prepping for them can feel like gearing up for a space mission, minus the cool suits. You’re juggling people, facts, opinions, and a whole lot of coffee. The first 30 days are critical. And hard. Lucky for you, I developed a formula so you can deliver successful kickoffs over and over again. Check out our Project Kickoff Deck template. It streamlines your prep and showcases your unique value to win clients over.

Effective brand extension that combines solid strategy, crafted creative, and a results-driven approach that develops licensing relationships and delights your fans.
🎅 #Advent #Gratitude🎅 Its day thirteen and I think we’re reaching peak “aaahhh f-it, lets just pick it up in January” season’ 😲 If you’re waiting to kick-off a project and doesn’t happen in the next day or so, you can pretty much much forget it in the UK. I literally just wrote an article on good briefing and immediately thought of Jerra Parfitt. Jerra over at The Joester Loria Group is a prime example of this craft in action. Our paths first crossed at the Licensing Expo in Vegas in 2022, and since then, Skew has embarked on several projects together. Jerra's ability to write a comprehensive brief is tip-top, particularly demonstrated in our collaboration for Pacifico Beer, a client of JLG. Her briefs consistently begin with clear objectives and an understanding of the target market, providing us with a solid foundation yet ample room for creative input. Jerra's approach to project management is a blend of structured guidance and trust. She sets clear expectations and organises critical checkpoints, ensuring a streamlined process while respecting our creative autonomy. This approach not only fosters a productive working environment but also results in unified, client feedback - critical to success. Our mutual interest in strategic and creative business creative has been a key aspect of our partnership. Jerra and I share a belief in the power of a detailed brief as a tool for inspiration, not restriction. This has significantly influenced our approach at Skew, encouraging innovative thinking within clear boundaries. Jerra's expertise in briefing has been a valuable asset to our collaborations, marrying creative ambition with business acumen. She is a pro, bringing clarity and direction to every project she handles. Thanks Jerra 🙏 The article of briefing best practice should be up on our site this week. Unless of course we decide to punt it until January because...Christmas.

I can't tell you the number of times I've been approached at the last minute to help plan and execute an event. A lot of the time, we turn these requests down. Why? They don't meet the criteria that I feel are necessary in order to set a project up for success. Here are the THREE key questions we ask ourselves when evaluating jumping in: 👉 Is there enough time to adequately iterate on the creative and to advance the production thoroughly (the amount of time required varries with complexity of project). 👉 Do we have the bandwidth to ensure the project is executed flawlessly. 👉 Would we have said yes to this project if we were brought in at the beginning? We wouldn't say yes to something last-minute, that we wouldn't have said yes to from the start… If we don't have a yes across the board to those three questions, we won't move forward. But if the event ambition is within the realm of possibility and we believe in the idea, our team is well suited to pull off projects with tight timelines.

Creatives: Stop selling out and start attracting awesome projects 😍 Creative Podcast & Business Coaching
Never raise the issue of TIMING before the client has signed. Don't scare them away. I discussed this issue with a client the other day. He got a proposal for a project, yet thought he was maxed out due to another job that he is finishing right now. So here's what happens in my experience. A. Timings most likely change throughout the process anyway B. Often, the client pushes the kickoff because THEY are not ready C. Worst case, you will always find a solution once you have overlaying projects Details come after the commitment — If you remember anything I have taught you so far, please remember this line! Make sense? If you'd like to work with me, check out my website. I'm launching a new program this Septmeber. 😍 Make sure you don't miss out 😎
