"Owning Real Estate Is Essential for Black Wealth & Community Empowerment" Description: Driving through Los Angeles, I realized something powerful: many Black families are losing out because they don’t own real estate. Gentrification only happens when we sell properties that should stay in our communities. We need to understand that owning real estate isn’t just about wealth—it's about protecting our neighborhoods. Watch as I discuss why holding onto our homes can stop gentrification and build generational wealth. #RealEstateInvesting #CommunityWealth #StopGentrification #BlackWealth #GenerationalWealth

Great insights were shared at the FOCUS St. Louis event! Former St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay, Former St. Louis County Council Member Colleen Wasinger, and Former President & CEO of Bi-State Development and Mayor of Chesterfield John Nations provided valuable nuggets on finding common ground through civil discourse. Here are some key takeaways from the event: 1. Building relationships is crucial to achieving success. 2. Working across party lines is necessary for progress. 3. Disagreements can be productive, as long as they are respectful. 4. Avoid seeking attention in a negative way. 5. Politics should be about the business of people, not outside agendas. 6. Our young people need more ways to connect and get involved. It was good to hear the discussion on how we can improve civil discourse in our community. Thank you to Yemi A. Akande-Bartsch, Ph.D and Jody Sowell Sowell for facilitating these important discussions. Let's continue to strive for civil discourse and finding common ground. #FOCUSStLouis #CivilDiscourse #CommunityDiscussions

Vice President of Career Services @ Licking/Knox Goodwill | Media/Communications Director @ Trinity Full Gospel Church | MBA, Non-Profit Management
So excited for this next step for Licking County! Today myself and others from the Licking County Reentry Coalition Steering Committee completed our training to begin hosting a Citizen Circle monthly for Licking County. 🙌🙌🙌 Taken directly from ODRC: “Citizen Circles create partnerships that promote positive interactions, social support, and accountability for justice-involved individuals. Together, justice-involved individuals and Citizen Circle members embark on a journey of transformation to create fundamental changes in people, relationships, and communities. Citizen Circles provide a holistic and collective approach to individuals at any stage of their reentry. Many need assistance immediately upon release; however, at times others who have been released for a period of time may need specific assistance from the Circle, such as obtaining employment. Goals of Citizen Circles include: Reintegration: To support individuals with a seamless transition back to Ohio communities. Community Partnerships: Community members take an active role in developing partnerships to assist individuals. Accountability: Justice-involved individual’s responsibility and commitment to positive change.”
