Contradictions within the justice system can have far-reaching and damaging effects, including: 1. Miscarriages of justice: Contradictions can lead to wrongful convictions, acquittals of guilty parties, or unjust sentences. 2. Erosion of trust: Contradictions can undermine public confidence in the justice system, leading to widespread distrust and disillusionment. 3. Inconsistent application of the law: Contradictions can result in unequal treatment of defendants, victims, or witnesses, violating the principle of equal justice under the law. 4. Confusion and uncertainty: Contradictions can create legal uncertainty, making it difficult for judges, lawyers, and law enforcement to interpret and apply the law. 5. Appeals and retrials: Contradictions can lead to costly and time-consuming appeals and retrials, clogging the court system and delaying justice. 6. Violation of rights: Contradictions can result in violations of defendants' rights, such as the right to a fair trial, due process, and equal protection under the law. 7. Lack of accountability: Contradictions can shield officials or law enforcement from accountability for misconduct or wrongdoing. 8. Systemic flaws: Contradictions can reveal deeper systemic flaws, such as bias, corruption, or inadequate training, which can perpetuate injustice. 9. Undermining of justice reform: Contradictions can hinder efforts to reform the justice system, as they can be used to resist changes aimed at improving fairness and accountability. 10. Damage to public safety: Contradictions can compromise public safety by allowing dangerous individuals to go free or failing to hold them accountable for their actions. Addressing contradictions within the justice system is crucial to ensuring fairness, accountability, and public trust. This requires ongoing efforts to identify and resolve contradictions, improve training and oversight, and implement reforms that promote justice and equality.

Check out what bills RISE is following this year and how you can support policy and advocacy efforts this year!
Nebraska's 108th Legislature, 2nd Regular Session began yesterday, January 3rd, and it was right to business. Senators began the day voting for the chair and vice chair of the Executive Board of the Legislative Council. New bill introduction included 82 pieces of legislation on this 1st day. There are 9 days left for senators to introduce other policy ideas. This session will also see the carryover of bills that did not move through last year's legislative process. Senators have been instructed they will not be able to carry over their priority designation of a bill from last year, so many senators have begun to look at other bills to make their priority this year. #Nebraska #NELeg #Policy #Advocacy #Legislature This short session has its first issue to tackle beginning next week with the introduction of 29 proposed changes to the permanent rules which can be found in the Legislative Journal (beginning on page 175) . This hearing is set to be scheduled for Monday, January 8th. Learn more about RISE's 2024 Policy and Advocacy priorities and sign up for advocacy alerts here: https://ow.ly/X9GJ50QnS4e
