Sclerosed canals: UR1 UL1 were reimplanted after trauma in youth and were now symptomatic. Plain film and scan were not encouraging about canal patency, in particular at UL1 with specialist reporter noting complete radiographic obliteration. Notwithstanding, in my view it is always worth a try to find a canal. Here both teeth were treated in around 1h30mins and finding canals was not too hard. Fine canals will not always show up on resolution of CT scan or plain films in my experience - always worth trying; don't try too hard if you are deep / getting nowhere and everything supports canal obliteration! NB apical exit on UL1 not at x-ray apex because of resorbed root - rely on apex locators for that, not x-rays!

For all those preparing for the portfolio pathway(CESR) in Trauma and Orthopaedics you need to be aware of the fourteen index procedures. To demonstrate the outcomes of the CiPS, there should be documented evidence of performance at the level of a day-one consultant in the portfolio by means of 3 PBAs to level 4 in each specific operation group by two or more trainers. For supracondylar fracture and external fixator application, an indicative number of 1 x PBA level 4 in a non-simulated setting is acceptable. One PBA may be assessed in simulation. The list of procedures is given below. The ISCP website has also come up with distal radius plating as a new index procedure, please keep an eye out for a blank PBA for distal radius plating in the next post.
